It was a bit warm down here in Paradise. I was out doing some work around the lot. Raking the pine needles up and trimming back some bushes. I was sweating freely but the little bit of breeze we were getting felt good. Then my wife tells me she wants to do some shopping. I ask what she needs and it's not a whole lot. Instead of taking the car we grab the bike, it will be a lot more economical.

We get changed. Jeans and Boots. A light shirt and then our jackets. Gloves and helmets in hand we head out to the bike. We pull on our helmets, (Open face with the visors up.) and I fire up the bike. I climb on the bike and lift it off the stand, it seems harder to do this than I remembered. I don't even have to look as I kick the stand up and pull the bike around. My wife climbs on and off we go.

Two turns later and we're on the long stretch. 10 miles at 45 MPH without a single light or intersection to slow us down. We're loving life but we were roasting. By the time we reach the store parking lot I have sweat dripping off my face and running through my beard. We park the bike, lock up the helmets and open our jackets as we head inside. The A/C hits us like a wall and I suddenly feel a chill on my ass. What the Hell?

When I checked I found that my jeans were soaked. It looked almost like I had peed myself. My denim jacket was soaked as well.

We did our shopping, taking our time and relaxing in the cool air. At the checkout we picked up two bottles of Gator Aide. These made it as far as the door before they were drained. Somewhat refreshed we headed back out to the bike, geared up again and headed for home.

It was when we got home that I realized just how warm it was. When I pulled the bike under the parking area canopy I could clearly see where I had parked the bike the last time. The Kick Stand had sunk almost an inch into the Black Top. I shut down the bike and looked around until I found a chunk of sheet metal I had meant to throw out but forgot to. I kicked this under the stand. Then we went inside. When I checked the thermometer it was reading 97° on our shaded patio.

Cat

Hot stuff Cat.

One hot day when I was young and foolish, I once rode my old Ariel leader virtually naked: shorts, boots, helmet and gloves. Not far, just around the block a couple of times, but doing thirty miles an hour through the air was wonderful.

You can have our weather if you want, Cat. It's been cold and mostly raining for days.

I hear ya Cat.... we've been over a hundred and the fire marshalls are already holding "Fire Season" press conferences. *sigh*
