It seems America is like Hotel California

And when y'all say, "If you don't like it, leave!!!" y'all are bluffing.

I can understand this Statement in the article...

"Coronavirus made me realize that in the US, if you’re not a member of the moneyed elite you’re left to fend for yourself with virtually no help from the federal government,” he said. “The farcical presidential campaign made me realize that I don’t want to be a member of a society in which my vote is made irrelevant by gerrymandering or the electoral college.”

This is exactly what the so called "conservatives" here say they want.

This guy sounds like the kind of person I want to move out of this country, so I hope that they figure everything out and get him off of the voter roles as soon as possible.

I do agree that the federal government is an abusive parent and I do think it's ridiculous that the government can't get it's act together to do simple bureaucratic work.

I think that the Guardian misrepresented the issue.

Unlike their Western counterparts,
Germany (until 2 months ago), Austria, Netherlands and Poland (possibly Finland too) just don't allow double citizenship.

I know of an Australian who's been married to a German for 10 years and still doesn't have German citizenship, because she isn't willing to renounce her Australian one.

Imo, those people are giving up their US citizenship mainly because they want to settle for good in Europe & receive a the benefits that come with local citizenship.
Their political views are secondary.
