I stumbled across this article and thought it was pretty informative right up to the middle.

According to Professor Brody, studies show "penile-vaginal intercourse is the only sexual behaviour consistently associated with better psychological and physiological health".

Hang onto your vibrators, oral and anal aren't good for you! Pfft... I should have known, but I thought Aussies were more liberated than our pulpit pounding puritans.

Assholes

Okay, Freud does not equal biological proof and makes you a laughing stock in the biological community.

From a summarizing web page about the suspect conclusion:

The author cites Freud who argued that penile-vaginal intercourse was the end result of health psychosexual development. If someone became arrested at an earlier stage, they might be more likely to engage in less “successful” sexual behaviors, including masturbation, which don’t confer the same “disburdening” function as mature penile-vaginal intercourse. The author uses this argument to bolster the notion that penile-vaginal intercourse has more health benefits than other forms of sexual behavior.

The paper was also published in Biological Psychology, a journal not well rated of (Impact Factor of less than 1.1 and not well considered among the scientific community for a tendency to favor psychology papers with base minimum biology as equatable to straight biology papers). Even among the psychosomatic-friendly community, Biological Psychology has a tendency to blur the line too much and rely on unscientific psychological methods and reliances.

In summary, the study is psuedoscience bullshit, though an important reminder to try and find out the assumptions and the background of the journal behind any publicized "scientific journal". This is because non-science papers and magazines are historically crap at discering science from psuedoscience and will treat them equally.

EDITED TO ADD: A tolerable impact factor is around 6-9. Decent to good is in the teens. Well Respected is in the 20s or higher. Eg. Cell is 40.481 and New England Journal of Medicine is 22.412. Impact Factor is a shortcut to figuring out how respected a journal is and thus its articles are put under the most intensive scrutiny and are allowed the least amount of leeway in deviating from hard science even in conclusion speculation.
