I think the problem, FLG, is the current crowd.

They are, as CL said, mean and rude and uncaring of other people's feelings. (Yes Sparky, some people do have feelings and it's not up to you to tell them how they should feel).

I don't like a whole lot of the people on here, but I ignore them. I'm sure a whole lot of people on here don't really care for me either, but they just ignore me so I don't know. And I like it that way. I don't get hurt, they don't get hurt. Just because I don't like someone doesn't mean I have to make their unhappiness on the BB the sole purpose of my Lit-existence.

Take Patryn's case for example. WHO THE HELL CARES IF SHE WAS RAVEN OR LEAH OR GUH!! OR WHOEVER! Leave her alone. Even if she was (which I tend to think she wasn't), then so what? Did she do anything to you personally? Most of you can answer "No" so GET THE FUCK ON WITH YOUR LIVES. And if she did offend you, then ignore her. It's as simple as that. Life goes on people, believe it or not, so just live and let live.

And then, on top of the meanness FLG, there seems to be lack of intelligence on the board nowadays. I don't think I have to elaborate here--it's pretty obvious. I agree the topics can be fun every now and then, but some of them are just down right stupid--not worth the time to read, much less respond. And then, as if the stupid topic threads weren't enough, a whole lot of them are SPAM. I thought we all said we didn't want SPAM on the BB... so why is every other thread a forward that I've gotten in my email a thousand times?

Do I contradict myself by writing this post?

Very well then, let me contradict myself. If it helps the board then it will be well worth my time.

Don't you think it's time to take a look at the way we are treating people around here? I'm pretty sure that when you joined the Lit BB, you joined because you wanted to be a part of the closely knit community that has been built here, not because you wanted to hurt people. So don't!
Everyone says that this is Laurel's board (and it is physically, I suppose), but can't you see that there really is no board without us?? This is our board, and it is what is because we make it that way.

Why can't we make it a pleasant place to be again?

Yes, we'd like that nice pleasant community 100% of the time. But just like a community in the RL, sometimes that means standing up and yelling "foul" when you see something going on that is wrong. Talking about something that is wrong isn't likely to be fun or pleasant, even if necessary for the good of the community as a whole. (By the way, this paragraph has nothing to do with the Patryn issue.)

If you were really trying to describe Utopia, Lit isn't it. Never has been, never will be.

The current crowd is fine. There are plenty of them, they seem to enjoy each other, they even get together in RL and chat via e-mail and othe electronic venues, they care when each other is having a bad day --- does this sound bad? Sounds like a fine community to me.

What has changed is that the community has grown so large that it also harbors miscreants who ocsasionally hijack a thread or two, and make it seem as though the board is being mean. But I don't see that it that way at all.

No, it obviously hasn't if valued members of the Lit community feel that they must leave because of a lack of respect present on the board.

This isn't just about reading or not reading posts. It's about respecting people just because they are people. That's not so Utopian to me, that's just basic human decency.

I propose we vote off the BB the threads that we find less than worthwhile.

We could also assign some sort of point system by which the authors and contributors to that thread would be penalized for their association with contributions the rest of the population has deemed unworthy.

Points can be regained through some sort of a penance system. Such as taking time away from their board-time to contribute some really good erotic stories or a mass distribution of erotic photos of themselves.
