It had to happen sometime. It seems those crazy people in New York City are getting fed up with paying the way for the rest of the state. (Now where have we heard this story before?) Now though it seems that they want to tak it another step. Read the article and let me know what you think.

New York without the Big Apple?

Hee hee, and so it begins.

But seriously, they're only trying to match against the crazies in my state. North and South have been arguing a breakup forever, Hollywood and Los Angeles have been wanting to break up as well, and every couple of years, someone floats an idea of secceeding the whole bickering state from the Union. Add to that the massive number of people who'd like to see us seceede from the Continental U.S. and drift off to sea and you get a more professional version of what these amateurs are attempting.

If ya'll ever do decide to float off to sea, will you let me know a bit ahead of time? I've got some cheap desert property to buy up first. ;)

Same thing goes on in Illinois all the time.

Chicago is urban and democratic, "downstate" is rural and republican, and the two don't like each other and are always fighting.

The republicans dumped control of the schools in Chicago into the city's lap, hoping to embarrass them. The city wanted to expand O'Hare airport but downstate wanted a finger in the pie and blocked it. Downstate's going with their own plan to build an entirely new airport in Peotone Illinois where they'll have control of the moolah, but none of the airlines will sign on. Peotone's out in the middle of nowhere.

Every so often someone starts talking about Chicago seceding, but it'll never happen.

Michigan is involved, too.

The Upper Peninsula would be most pleased to split from the Lower Peninsula.

My U. P. relatives refer to Lower Michigan as "the Mitten" and cheerfully call the people who live below Mackinac Bridge trolls.

Maybe it's a Yooper thing?

Huh. And here I was, thinking Texas was the only state that ever pulled this crap.

(Maybe the difference is that there have been actual movements for secession and not just talk.)

It happens in Canada all the time.

We have the Quebecois seperatists of course. Some people in Newfoundland were never happy about being part of Canada.

The West, mostly Alberta and British Columbia are always unhappy with those fucking Easterners.

Sometimes the only thing that holds this country together is that everyone hates Toronto.

So we're thinking of seceding as well.
