BLOODSWORTH, Tim Junkin

BLOODSWORTH is an account of a man who spent 9 years in prison for a murder he didnt do. He spent 2-3 years of the time on deathrow awaiting execution. He was the first person released from prison because of DNA testing.

Kirk Bloodsworth was not a sympathetic character. In his youth he was a doper-drinker chasing the next buzz. Even in prison he manipulated women for money to buy drugs.

Anyway, a little girl was raped and murdered, and Bloodworth's 'ex' called the police because Kirk kinda looked like the suspect. He was nowhere near the murder scene, but he did his best to act like a suspect, and his doper friends were pathetic references for his alibi. They either imagined conversations that never happened, or couldnt remember events that did. One of his girlfriends told cops Kirk confessed the murder to her, and another girlfriend was working with the cops to get him.

The bottomline was, the cops and newspapers and scumbags and child-savers worked together to convict him.

But he didnt kill the girl. The FBI checked her clothes for semen but found none. Later a DNA testing lab found the semen stains in her panties, and the semen wasnt Bloodworth's.

Based on my experiences, this case is typical of what happens when people get excited and want to lynch someone. And it's almost impossible to get a cop or witness or judge or jury to oppose the mob. It can be a career killer for investigators.
