The Virginia race is too close to tell still, and in all likelihood, there will be a recount.

I sat watching the results for a long time last night; first when Allen was over 30-40K ahead in raw votes. I had CNN.com open in another tab and remember refreshing it to see that the results had reversed, with Webb pulling ahead by under 3K. This morning the margin, in raw vote count, is a bit higher for Webb, but there will still be a recount because the margin is under 11K.

The little man's school is closed today because of dense fog; you can't see three feet past your feet outside right now. This means I will, essentially, get nothing done today.

I am letting him sleep in, instead of keeping him on his regular sleep schedule since Rev and I found him asleep on the bathroom floor last night around 1 a.m. Evidently, he got up to go to the bathroom and decided the bathroom floor looked comfy.

It was incredibly adorable, and I should have taken a picture but the rather less than steller condition of the bathroom (as it needs to be cleaned today) prevented such things.

Here in NH, a notoriously Republican state, we have two congress seats. Both multiple-term replublican incumbents lost their seats to Democrats....one by an overwhelming margin.

In the state senate, Dems took control for only the second time since 1911.

:D :D :D

looks like the people have spoken

The election results were very gratifying indeed.

I'd love to hear the conversations around the White House today.

white house press secretary tony snow described the results as "intriguing" and possibly opening the possibility for movement on the bush objectives re: immigration.

[barely stifles a chuckle]

"Intriguing"?

The Rebublicans got their collective asses kicked.

blue house, potentially a blue senate.

is it me or is this what happened the last time we had a two-term presidency?

Historically almost every two-term president has lost congressional support in the sixth-year elections - to the tune of about 25 house seats most times. This is hardly any different but it is being interpreted as a much bigger slap than usual because of the arrogance of the administration's approach to governing. They very much prefer to rule and the people very much prefer otherwise.

Hmmmm...let me guess, alcohol was involved?

I can remember a night or two (okay more...) when I was in college that I would come in after a night of drinking crawl into the bed and then decide that the bathroom floor in our suite was much better to sleep on because it was nice and cool.

And in other news, according to sources reporting to CNN, Donald Rumsfeld is stepping down.

I'm surprised it wasn't announced before the election. It hadn't been a well kept secret but still...

It's a good thing no matter when official.

i remember a conference i went to (in PA i think, but who knows) and i passed out in the hallway. i was midway between my room and the door going outside. whichever direction i was headed, i didn't make it and did my best keith moon impression after drinking all but three shots from a fifth of irish whiskey.

oh... and i had to give a presentation (an education session is what we called it) the next morning. i gave it but couldn't tell you anything about it. got glowing reviews though. :D
