Multiple times might be going a little far but being able to reconnect if a relationship unravels for whatever reason has to be a good thin both for the individual and Society.

One strike and you are out would leave a lot of cynical and lonely people in the world who would not be the optimum building blocks for a productive Society.

In today's society sex is talked about openly and everywhere while love is only talked about in hushed and often embarrased terms. People are afraid to be vulnerable (or admit to it).

It's possible to find many people to love, there are many that meet the qualities that we look for in another human -- but to find someone to fall in love with is another story -- those are of a rare and different nature. The difference between love and in love is vastly different.
