Porn involves lots of production, it's the nature of the game. There are dozens of edits per scene, retakes, a crew of guys and gals watching in the wings, off-screen enemas, makeup and nipple rouge, etc...

Even so called amatuer porn is weird...the actors and actresses seem highly aware of the camera (who wouldn't be) and the angles are all meant for the viewer at home to get a better look at the works.

People rarely if ever kiss in porn in a natural or real way either, foreplay is non-existant, and I've never seen two porn actors say "I love You" or even "that was great, maybe we should try to do lunch"...all of which leads me to ask: Do you think porn can ever capture the essence of a hot, real world sexual experience or does the medium dictate artificiality?

On the surface, no to both porn and erotica. I think the only way in which it becomes "good" is in what happens in our minds when we see it...we fantasize, we begin to think of someone else and place then into the scene with us. I have seldom watched either and been extremely aroused simply by watching it and accepting it at face value, although the sounds do get me flowing.

I recently started watching "Emmanuelle" on MoreMax (i think, or HBO) and as far as Erotica goes, it really is some of the best. I saw a threesome scene which normally would do nothing for me, that had me almost in tears with the way these people seemed to truly make love. There was such tenderness, so much giving and teasing and intensity, that at one in the morning, I sat on my sofa aroused out of my mind and yet so moved, that i couldn't even reach for my toys. All I wanted was for that scene to play out on my sofa...with me.

Maybe it's just a matter of where your mind will allow you to go - the barriers in your own head. You can't get past the "acting" - that's why it's not exciting for you, you KNOW it's not real.

I think we've all watched actors and laughed our asses off at the stupidity of what they expect us to believe sometimes. Then, there are those times when we do get swept away in what we're seeing on the screen.

Video Porn and the true essence of sex? Yes, to the mechanical essence of sex but for me there's got to be a heart and soul connection to make it seem real. Video porn makes me horny but it doesn't have that extra part of the plot that a 'real' story does. One example of good soft pornI think of is "Wild at Heart" with Laura Dern and Nicolas Cage. The passion the actors pull off combined with the sex made me catch my breath and ooze more than any hardcore video. The scene with Willem Defoe was a real heart thumper, too. Not that it had love to it but I found it realistic. That's the thing about porn....there's no believable story developed.

I've seen "The Lover" and quite honestly it appeared that the Chinese actor was screwing Jane March. I like that film (and book) as a piece of art and yes, it did stimulate me.
