I'm not talking about the message. It's probably an opinion honestly held by some people. And I'm not talking about the fear-mongering tactics of the ad. We've seen that a thousand times before. Even though this is kind of a new low.

I'm talking about the delivery.

Listen to the last time that speaker voice bellows out "--- wants to --- kill --- us!" I didn't know whether to laugh or bang my head against a wall.

Parody or real? If it's sarcasm, it's subtle enough to be confusing. If it's real, then WTF? Does that kind of hyperdrama weirdness actually work with anybody wnywhere?

Welcome to the idiocy generated by the Bush Republican Party, Liar. With the Mid-Term elections 6 weeks away, the GOP is trying hard to make themselves looke like the "Defenders of Freedom" and the Democratic Party look like the cowards who run from a fight.

You will see a lot more of this crap until after election day.

By the way, did you notice the distortion (lie) in the video? "...how we have crushed Al Quida in Iraq..."?? There is no truth here. This group is working out of the Bush White House pushing the Bush/Rumsfield adjunda. Nothing more. More than anything, If anything it shows how afraid the Bush Administration is of the coming election.

Oh yes. It does.

Fear is a powerful motivator. Whether that fear is based on reality or a proper assessment of the risks is almost besides the point.

Besides, it's an election year in the U.S. The party that currently controls Congress and the administration intends to keep control. It sets itself up as the only party 'tough on terror'. And it can't be 'tough on terror' if people aren't terrified now, can it? ;)

Didn't take long for this to become political, did it? :D

Considering I laughed my way through this? LOL I can only HOPE that it's satire. Although, what does a satirical piece really say? :shifting eyes back and forth: :D

It's just more right-wing fear mongering. We've been getting this sort of thing from the Bush administration for the last five years. Given that it's an election year and Bush approval ratings are very low, it's no surprise we're seeing this now. I think we'll see a lot more of this stuff between now and November 2008.

Like I said, fear-mongering wouldn't suprrise me. But this is fear-mongering that sounds like a really bad movie trailer. I was waiting for the "In a world gone mad..." for crying out loud.

Despite that the 'satirical ad' gave me a laugh - what I love about satire is its unabashed and no holds barred truth. LOL We have come to this low point. And the funny part? Oedipus Rex comes to my mind. :D How interesting our worlds are right now. Political? YES.

Democracy is never a stones throw from fascism. :D

Unfortunately, I agree, fear mongering does work. I didn't try to listen to the ad as it probably would have frozen my piece of cr@p computer. I've heard things like what people are saying many times though and it is used by many factions. Hell, it's the evening news.

Jenny's got it right. The upcomiong elections are also why Bush is suddenly pushing to get his military tribunals through so he can start trials of the prisoners in Guantanimo and grab some headlines.

Look for the return of the color-coded terror alerts any time now (Condition Purple! Condition Reddish-Blue-with-Orange-Highlights!).

It would be a good time to invest in duct tape and plastic sheeting manufacturers.

I pay this crap attention, but I still make up my own mind. I encourage others to do the same.

I'll tell you what the real problem with America is, and why this kind of fear-mongering is so effective.

We are a nation founded by the fearful. We initially came here because of fear, "OMG, we're being persecuted for our beliefs!", and every since we've feared everything, "OMG, Indians...quick, hate and fear them for their beliefs!!". It's easy to see if you have a look at a news broadcast anywhere in the country. You hear things like, "How school is KILLING our children and why YOURS might be next!! News at 11." and simular shit.

If there's ever anything possitive in the news, it comes well after stories designed to terrify the public, and is sandwiched between the moderatly bad news of how many people were murdered today and stories like, "Why shopping in supermarkets might be causing birth defects, and what you need to know to make sure it doesn't happen to YOU!! News at 11", so that by the time the news is over you've forgotten there was anything possitive in there at all.

Just about everything is geared into scaring you in this country. This or that will kill you, OMG you look OLD...better buy this latest product or no one will love you and those who do will stop loving you and find someone who don't look like they're "over the hill", holy SHIT!!, if you don't wash with anitbactirial soap and wipe every surface in your home with something that will kill 99.9% of all germs known to man then your kid will come home from school covered in germs and everyone in your house will get sick with some Super Virus and DIE!!...etc...the whole thing pisses me off, to be honest.

Yup. All Fear, All the Time, from now till November.

Also note how they are running against opponents that don't exist - they're all straw men!

The Republican National Committee is running a campaign that should be called "Bogeymen, and the Straw Men who don't want us to kill them."

...By that huge nose ring they install right after birth. They give the parents a two-fer when it's a boy cuz they can install the nose ring and amputate the foreskin at the same time.

With the risk of sounding like a wind-up toy: Like I said, I expect scare tactics, straw men, slippery slopes and outright lies from both sides (yep, don't fool yourself, the 'good guys' aren't much better). C'mon folks, it wouldn't be a proper election without them. Now, I've seen a lot of American news and other media, so i know exactly what the "OMFG, wereallgonnadie!!! (Story at 11)" is all about. But that ad. Jeez. It kind of redefines the whole concept of 'laying it on thick'. It's all pathos, on steroids, with a Stinger missile up it's ass.

And it expects to be taken seriously. I'm sorry, but my Aristotelian synapses whimpers, crumbles and dies at the very thought of it.

The truth hurts. Maybe not as much as jumping on a bicycle that doesn't have a seat, but it still hurts.
If someone simply and soberly informs me of the truth, I will listen. If someone yells me the truth in my face, I will knee him in the gonads.

You sweet, gentile European. This add doesn't surprise me, an eye rolling, jaded American, in the least little bit. I've seen it's like a hundrted times before now. Admitedly it's usually aimed at scaring people into believeing that the other candate is bent on letting the paper industry cut down the Redwood forests in California so they can make school supplies and cardboard boxes, or some such, but it's not unique. It's an old tactic. The only thing new about it is the subject, and the subject changes from one ellection season to the next.

The determining factor is whatever the hot topics happen to be at the time. It doesn't matter if it's the environment, immigration (So and so wants to let all these illegal aliens take your jobs!), taxes or this fresh hot button, terrorisum. The adds are all the same, with the same dramatic music and the same "masculine, trustworthy voice-over". If you have any intelligence you stop paying them any mind. Unfortunatly, most Americans are little more than sheep, concerned with little more than what's going on in theirt own back yard. Proof of this is that we started a war that we couldn't win over the price of tea tariffs. At least that's the straw that broke the camel's back.

I know...you're saying, "Couldn't win? But you did win it." Only because the French came to our rescue, hense the famous line, "La Fayette, nous voilà!", (La Fayette, we are here), uttered by General Pershing upon his arrival in France durring WWI. The French pulled America's bacon out of the fire during the Revolutionary War and we've hated them ever since.

But I digress. My point is that if you can find something that your "average American" feels strongly about, or is frightened by, and play it up so it sounds like civilization itself rests on this one issue, then you'll have the public in the palm of your hand. People are sheep wandering aimlessly in search of a "strong, capable shepherd" and if you can convince them that you're that person you've got it made in the shade, my friend. Mud slinging and scare tactics work every time because people (in general) will believe anything they read/see/are told.

Yes, well, you're not an American, are you? *snicker* You've been taught to think for yourself. The American public has been trained from birth that if something is prefaced with, "This is a true story." it must, in fact, be a true story, and they feel emotionally raped when they discover that it was naught but a farce.

Why do you think so many Americans hate The Blair Witch Project? Because they were told at the begining of the movie that it had been based on real events, and was supposed to be little more than a documentary using actual footage. They loved it until they found out that it was a scam, and there was an uproar. They all cried "Foul!" They weren't mad that it wasn't true, they were mad that they'd been gullible enough to believe it was true.
