Is this rude?

I was PMing with someone whom I'd talked to a little bit on the boards. They wanted to see a pic of me, and so we decided to exchange pictures.
They expressed interest in me, and I told them "Thanks, but I'm not looking for anything online". They never responded.

Do you think it's rude that they never got back to me? I personally think it was- it made me feel like the only thing they wanted to do was fuck me, and I wasn't any good as someone who they could talk to.

Opninions, please.

rude, very rude, most definitely not uncommon.

It's too bad some people are like that, but they are out there...

You'r right.. the guy you were chatting with was very rude! But given that he left like that so early, it's just as well you didn't wate much time with that jerk!

Quite rude, but look at it this way,
They think you're fuckable (new word I think).

If they don't want to get to know the entire package,
It's their problem. You have every right to be offended.

Happens all too frequently ..... whether it's with a picture exchange or just a *chat*, once they find out that you're not interested in anything other than friendship, sometimes any talk ends right then.

They could have at least let you known they'd received the picture .... and not made their intentions so obvious. Either they don't care that you picked up on what they were looking for, or they are too stupid to realize how apparent it was.

Btw if you wanna send me a picture, I'll still talk to ya after I see it. :D

He or she maybe took you literally when you said "I'm not looking for anything online." That could be interpreted to mean friendship as well as romantic relationship. Could be they thought you were insulting them- that you were willing to be friends BEFORE you say their pic, but not after?

Yep, she's right. But you know I wouldn't mind seeing the pics. LOL.

Chey, I had already seen his pics, as he's not shy about posting them. I sent him a pic when he asked for one, he expressed interest in me because he thought I was attractive (he said that), and when I said I wasn't looking for anything online, the PMs stopped. I'm pretty sure that he knew I meant I wasn't looking for anything more than friendship.

It's not the first time it's happened- just totally fucked up. Women are just a fucking piece of cybermeat to some men.

It was definitely rude and crude, minx.

Guys who are worth being friends with wouldn't act that way.

Haven't you already seen my pic? :)

"I can't honestly recall, Your Honor"

One more benefit of the doubt scenario - has this person been around Lit since, or could they have been away from home / computer?

They've been around, and through the message tracking system I know they read the PM.
Patient1, if you want to see my pic or exchange, let me know, but promise me you'll get back to me when I tell you I only want to be friends. :)

hell no

it was not rude, just honest.

why waste time if you are not getting anywhere?

Good point but he should have actually stated he wasn't interested in a non-cyber relationship instead of turning tail and not saying a thing.

perhaps...
it's so very easy though to just click off and be done with it..
like I said why waste time with those who don't when there are so many who will...

The point is that cartain people complain about things that they are guilty of as well.

I just KNOW that isn't directed towards me. Cause we've never IM'd.

IA951: Just because it's Internet doesn't make it any less rude if it was RL. Rude is rude, curteous is curteous. Plain and simple.

Zam,

Courteous is Courteous, dear! ;)

Good post. However, so many people fail to feel it necessary to use common manners on the internet.

It happens. In some respects, these are people I am happy to say "Good bye and Good riddance" to.

However, IA's post is exactly what it is about. A shopping expedition....
