Is this mean, or is this fun?

I suupose that would depend on whether or not you have to staple it to the animal to get it to leave it on.

Seriously, I think that it's needless. The cat doesn't want to dress up or it would do so on its own. It's just to satisfy the desires of the cat's (odd) owner. I suppose that puts me in the mean column.

I have to say insane.

Two of my kitties, Max and Tallis, would hide for weeks.
Spyder would bite me.
Grendle would leave me a surprise in the corner.

Although, if cat treats were involved, Spyder might be game.

JP's reaction was a hearty hiss. As he has managed to ditch every collar we've tried, the idea of a costume is ludicrous.

He's a coal black shorthair with big ears and intense, silvery green eyes. He doesn't NEED to dress up for Samhain; he IS Samhain.

Figo (my cat) say's "Meow , meow, meow, mmmmmeeeeeeoooooowwww" .
Translation.
If I even think of buying him one he'll do a runna never to return. So there OUT.....

But to be quite honest I think there sad and so are the people that buy stuff like this for there pet's.

My kitty gives it a big tail's down. Like CL's cat, he doesn't even like the idea of a collar. Add to that the fact that he's the most un-social (assume in this case that most cats are at least 'social') monster I've ever seen. I'd end up in ER if I ever tried something like that on him. LOL

Silly and dumb, but isn't that what the commercial part of Halloween is all about? Oh and giving even more money to the retailers who thought of this.

I don't see what the big deal is here. Does anyone doubt for a minute that slut_boy's cat Walter wears panties?

Those cats look pissed off. I can see my cat having a fit and the dogs chasing her all over the place. Her name is Joe by the way.

Thats just straight mean. If cats were meant to wear clothes they'd act more like dogs that wear clothes.

I suppose it depends on the cat. My old cat wouldn't have minded it. My current cat would sneak into my room in the middle of the night and claw my eyes out.

Mean. It does nothing for the pet, just for the odd ego of the eccentric owner.

Arthur, our dachshund who passed on 2 days ago, had a doggy sweater to keep him warm when we walked him on cold days, and a doggy raincoat for rainy days, he appreciated the comfort these gave his old bones (he was 10, that's 70 in human years). These were kindness to the pet, not the silliness of the owner.

We live in a mobile home park (NOT a trailer--at 1550 square feet try towing this "trailer" with YOUR car!) No place to walk him, so we had to drive down the street to a local park. When he saw the collar, he would jump for us to put it on him: "Oh boy, I'm going for a car ride and a walk in the park." He got SO eager about it, he knew the collar meant an outing JUST for him! So I don't view the collar as mean in his case.

On car rides, when we would stop at red lights, he would whimper to get out. We were stopped, why were all still in the car? He didn't get the concept of traffic lights. It
was annoying at times, but mostly was just cute.

God, I miss Arthur!

Don't know, but......

The meat tastes fine and the pelts make fine glove lining.

I don't know Laurel....

The only two incidents I've seen of pets being dressed up where funny for all, pets and humans that is. The first was when I bought my brother and his wife kittie halos for my new cat nieces a couple of Christmases ago. I'm sure you guys have seen them around. The cats spent the better part of an hour chasing the barely visible halo like a couple of catnip huffers. And even when they had removed and shreaded the nice auntie's gift they glanced up every once and a while to make sure it hadn't grown back.
The second was last Halloween when I saw a family walking the kids around on beggars night. With them was a great dane wearing a man's white dress shirt and a clip-on tie. It was the best costume I saw all night! They even had the sleeves rolled up a bit for the authentic look. Pup seemed most happy to oblige them and was outgoing in a nice friendly kind of way.
So dunno....

Well, since I am not fond of the four legged, furry cat because I am allergic to them, I would have to say it is funny. I know it is wrong to wish discomfort on anyone or thing because they make you feel that way but oh well. Sorry to all the cat lovers who find it mean. Hell give me a six-pack and a costumed cat and that is prime entertainment for a few minutes (As long as I have a water bottle with a spray nozzel to keep them away when they charge me!).

My cat is 14 years old & she thinks it is silly. Dressing up in funny outfits is for goofy creatures like humans, not dignified dowager kitties. She would have something like off in about 5 minutes & I would pay the price when she decides to wake me up at 3am for a kitty treat.

LMAO...Deborah, you are the best...I can just see walter now.

me too @ Deborah; giggle.

no need to tell my cats , I KNOW their comment will be a condescending and dismissive sigh, which translates as "only in America"

LMMFAO

whew, i literally laughed for five minutes while i looked at that website. they look like they aren't too happy, sorta as if they want to drop a few kitty 'presents'. um. it isnt cruel. if it doesnt hurt the cat. it is just hilarious and will amuse someone like me for hours.

Even if I actually liked cats.... that is fucking funny but I don't think that I can see a cat keeping it on for long.
The bat one looks sort of like a dog anti-scratch collar though.

Where did you find that, Laurel? And was there anything for your turtles there?
