is this good or bad?

Honestly, I'm not trying to be self-aggrandizing here, I just don't know if the rating for my first story, which was approved yesterday afternoon, is good or not. It's rated at 4.38 from 8 votes and has been viewed 1123 times.

I have no idea about what the votes mean. A brief perusal of several threads discussing story scores have left me knowing even less than I suspected, when I first began that ill-fated research.

Any story that has “been viewed 1123 times” but no one has communicated any opinion couched in terms, which cannot fail to appraise you of their negative opinion, in my mind, must be viewed as a considerable success.

It's kind of like asking "how long is long enough?"

I feel really good when I get an "H" (hot) icon. That comes when you have at least 10 votes and an average score of 4.5 or higher.

If one of my stories has an average of more than 4.0, I take it as general acceptance.

Some of my stories got stuck between 3.0 and 4.0 and that is disappointing. I'm happy with anything above a 4.
Of course, those little H's are very nice.
But the knowledge that thousands of people are reading something I have created is the real kick.

It's a very reasonable score, put it that way. Congrats!

And, equally, I hate to big myself up, but only two of my 13 stories are below 4.38.

However, voting is a fickle thing and should never be taken that seriously. Some of the best stories I've read at this site are well below that score, while some of the worst dreg I have read are above that score.

Make of that what you will about what I think of my own.

Just wait for the kick you get when the views reaches the tens of thousands. Woo hoo.

Thank you! I was afraid I came off sounding too clinical or something. You know, all correct but about as interesting as an instruction manual.

One feedback so far, complimenting my use of language. I thnk that's pretty good.
