I just created a new alt (MinorMonster) to submit my poems under. Simoply because there are too bloody many under the Liar list that I can't keep track of them anymore.

But I want to continue to post stuff here on the forum under the Liar name. Do I need some kind of disclaimer o'er there so that ppl don't think MM is a thieving bastard? How do you folks with alts keep em sorted?

Maybe you can post something in MinorMonster's bio that Liar and MinorMonster is one and the same. Then put a link in your sig line to MinorMonster's submission page. Just a thought. I'll probably do the same after this year's Author Survivor contest is over with for the same reason. Too many submissions to keep track of.

you could try keeping track of them in a different way.

i.e. each poem title could be

year, month, date, poem title.

or something similar to keep it simple.

I created an alt just so I could sling my hostility and offense over some minor hurt at another member of Lit while keeping my first username clear of the mud.

Oh, wait, I don't have an alt.

Yeah but you're like complex and multitasking and shit.

Sack and LeBroz just welcomed me to Lit.

Which is as it should be. All your personalities should feel welcome at Lit. ;)

I'm not sure about the confusing part. I've used alts twice to run experiments. After the conclusion of the experiments, I no longer needed the alts so I killed em off. (oh the horror!)

I think it is unethical to use an alt to try to "sling shit" as it were. If somebody has something to say, he or she should stand up behind those words and say it straight. Sometimes there is no better way to find something out than to use an alt, though. I used one to find out if people were voting based on my pictures or based on the poetry independent of personality. I had an alt that I only submitted a poem or two with and never used it to post or chat. It told me a bit about how my writing would be received independent of me. The second time I submitted under a gender neutral name. Both times I found out good news: people like my poems independent of me.

These days I have no time for alts or experiments, but I think an alt can certainly be useful if used ethically. It would have been unethical, for example, for me to use my alt to hurt or snoop. If you want to find out how people see your poetry independent of you, though, create an alt and tell noone about it. Don't post a picture or any forum posts. Then submit a poem or two and see what the reaction is.

I never had the problem you have, Liar, with your bajillion submissions. I have thought of making a new account just to change my name. If I do that, can I get my old submissions moved over to the new name? I don't live in the far north anymore and with the new BF, I'm feeling pretty "thawed" :D .

Yes, they do. And I hope you would agree that that is the important thing.

You can do that. Just PM Laurel what you would like to do and she'll switch them all at once for you to your new user name.

What did you have in mind for a new account? cherries_flambe? ;)

And there it is, the first "uuh u an alt so u sux" comment. Booya!

It is important, but it is odd not to have made friends here. I do everywhere else. Here has been different. Not sure why. I guess I stepped on people's toes without realizing it. Too late to mend, I guess.

But it is nice to know they liked the poems.

edit: guess I did make a friend here. Thanks for letting me know. :rose:

Well, you're sure as heck not an enemy of mine. :rose:

On a side note: Somebody seems to be. The Monster gets far more 1's than the Liar ever got. And I don't think it's me that suddenly got suckier. ;) Well, it ain't getting me down, as long as it's read. That's what it's for.

Perhaps someone has a phobia about alts. Personally, I'm reading M&M and Liar in a new light and finding even more quality than I first noticed.

In the last couple weeks it looks like Lit's poets are crawling out from undercover {okay ~ what you folks been doing there?} and starting to publicly comment on poems. All for the good, in my book.

Hey CoS - some poets are so thin skinned that they'll go flying off the handle at anything less than adoring effusive praise. Stay honest and let 'em crawl to a corner & sulk.

Could happen. Depends on the severity of the stalker, I guess.
