I’m wondering if writers ever get story ideas from others that are already developing a story? I have an idea for a story that I’ve come up with but I’m a not a great writer and I don’t have access to a laptop currently. I would like to tell you the idea I have and then see if you would be interested in writing it. If so, I would give you all the info it’s based on, dialogue, side stories and additional parts. Reach out if you’re interested!

Ps. Please don’t roast me if this is dumb or not something people do! I just had an idea and this is my first time posting

Actually, a reasonable idea. I will send you a PM and see if your idea fits my interests and skillset as a writer.

It does happen - and good luck with @LegendInMyOwnMind - but also please bear in mind that most writers have more of their own ideas than they can possibly get around to writing.

Out of ~150 stories here, only one of mine is based on someone else’s idea, and there were particular reasons for that.

Just looking to set your general expectations 😊

I have one here that was based on someone else's idea, but that was personal. I also have one that was based on a joke on AH, suggesting that I could write a story that ... (The Great Cupcake Caper). And there was a thread call Oh Sweetie that inspired the aunt (and from that the entire story) in my Oh Sweetie story that published a few weeks ago.

Only the first one was really at all a fleshed out idea that at all matched someone else's idea. Even that wasnt a great match, to my regret.

No promises, but if someone shared an idea and it was something that resonated with me and fit my style and niche, I'd at least think about it. Send me a DM, I'm sure I'd know right away if it was worth considering or if it wasn't my cup of tea.

I'd also be happy to help you develop it yourself - I've written probably 10% of my total word count on a phone, so it is doable if you set your mind to it.

Thank you Emily!

I'm looking for story ideas that are outside my comfort zone, and I would absolutely entertain the idea of writing from someone else's prompt. Feel free to shoot me a PM with something about the idea.

Regards,

Xann

I know I've written a few stories based on being inspired by another author's story or ideas.... @EmilyMiller helped inspire an entire universe of them... and I've also had author's tell me my stories inspired them to write something as well.

So, sure, inspiration can be found anywhere really 😀

I’ve picked up the odd theme from somebody else, either from a blanket call on Story Ideas or else somebody asking me directly. Take a look at my stuff and, if it appeals, drop me a line. I think most writers are cool like that.

This is not a dumb question at all, and yes, I have often been inspired by the stories or ideas of other writers.

Probably the best way to do this is to build connections with authors you know you like, and then reach out to them. I've had people contact me through DMs with ideas they had, and a few of my stories had their start that way.
