...between "Stay The Course" and "Give It A Chance"?

Sounds like the same old B.S. to me

 Jenny, Jenny, Jenny. And you call yourself a writer. You really must get better at the subtle but essential nuiances here.

"Stay the course"--take note of the commanding tone there. The military edge. The implication is that if one fails to "stay the course" one will become a weakling.

Now that's entirely different from:

"Give it a chance"--which is much more defensive. The implication is that if one doesn't give this a chance, one is being unfair and unkind. Note the switch from top-dog ("Stay the course, you wimps!") to under-dog ("Give it a chance, you meanies!").

Totally different.

lol

Well ... stay the course implies walking the conservative line and give it a chance indicates trying something new(on a basic figurative level that is). :)

Stay The Course= 13 letters, 10 unique

Give It A Chance= 13 letters, 10 unique

hm... not much

I assume this had something to do with the President last night. I didn't watch and don't care to listen to or read anything about what he said.

"Stay the course".......AKA...."Jesus, we fucked up but we sure the Hell ain't gonna admit it now, so let's keep on fucking up and hope that the other side eventually fucks up, too."

"Give it a Chance".......AKA...."Hey, now....we may have fucked up from the beginning....but with a little extra effort and at the expense of a few thousand more lives of our soldiers....there's a remote possibility that we might just pull this one off..."

The only difference I see is that it seems he's finally listening to the military people now (notice I used the word 'seems', I'm not saying I trust him). The problem is, now that the military people are being honest, you're getting the real truth...we should start seeing results in months, but it shouldn't be finished for over a year (a far cry from standing on the battleship with "Mission Accomplished" on a banner over his shoulder). I agree with McCain, now that we're in the mess, just walking out would be a guarantee that the region would fall into horrific chaos. Then again, it's not exactly Club Med right now so....
