rhyme or reason for how views and voting work?

My second story is up. And it's been up for less than 24 hours.

In that time it's garnered almost as many views and votes as the last chapter of the first story I posted did in a week. And that was a pretty hot piece of writing, if I do say so myself.

So WTF?

Or is this just one of those mysteries that will never be understood? And would drive us mad if we did?

Or am I just shamelessly plugging my latest story?

The number of views that you see is not updated in real-time. It updates something like once or twice a day. So sometimes, especially when a story is on the New- list, the number of votes can actually exceed the number of registered reads. It'll even out in a day or two.

Edited because I just broke the world record in spelling errorsper quare inch.

That is the question of the decade it seems. (Not the shameless plug, but the view and vote question! LOL)

I never quite understand it myself - but I did ask a friend of mine and he said that he views the stories but never votes.

My question is about that hot meter -- does THAT act as a vote as well? or just the 1-5??

But a good plug for your story...'coz now I will read it!

I've been told that how you rate in the comments does not affect the overall score. Only the separate voting does.

That doesn't seem right. I would think that when you enter a PC, you also vote automatically. The default is a threee but you can set it where you want and the thermometer reflects the vote.

On one of my stories, one person left three separate PC's and he also voted three times. Eventually, I suppose the second and third votes will be deleted. I will probably leave the PC.

By the way, Randi, that is a really hot AV.

Well, maybe it should, but it isn't so. They are separate systems. I had 0 votes and several comments on a poem of mine for a while. There are commenters, especially of poetry, that doesn't like to rate, but just leaves it at a 3 (or 50%) and say what they thought in the comment instead.
