I mean the surreal, anything-can-happen-at-any-moment comedy of Airplane, The Naked Gun, Top Secret, etc.

Which somehow seems to be something fundamentally different from the surreal, anything-can-happen-at-any-moment comedy of Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Farce speaks to the ridiculousness. Though the movies you mention specifically are parodies.

Lots of comedies could be described as ridiculous and as parodies -- I'm looking for some more narrow, specific name.

I tend to think that the American comedies fall in the category of the slapstick, while the Monty python series seems to tap into a kind of burlesque humour
