Is there a divide between the forums and the chat room?

When I first signed up here, it was with the intent of contributing to the literature database. I've always browsed this site on and off, but only until recently did I decide to write. I never knew what the community was like, I assumed it would be more civil than a typical porn site (pornhub, redtube, etc.).
While looking for an editor to help me figure stuff out on my first story, I decided to stop in the chat room to see if there were any around, and my god, did I mess up. It was the equivalent to me thinking I was walking into a library, and only upon entering did I realize that I just entered a porn theater where everyone was playing with themselves. I feel like I should have expected this, but I really didn't. I left the chat open, went afk for a while, and came back to a carpet bomb of virtual penises. Don't get me wrong though, some of the people there were actually very nice, and helpful. One of them actually suggested I try on the forums, because it has a better/more professional community than the chat room for the most part, and implied that the forums viewed the chat lurkers as scum. My experience on the forums has been a lot nicer than in the chat room, way more civil, but I was wondering if any of this holds truth in anyone else's eyes as well, and if there was a noticeable divide.

Hmmm.

*rubs salt n' pepper beard in deep repose*

My dear Elsie, when you say "divide," do you mean like an expanse separating two areas of a singular realm with a distance-spanning cleft like the Grand Canyon, or a palpable, Sybil-like mental schism, with disparate personalities forever at loggerheads with one another, lobbing water balloons across the separation as if it were a daily battle of dodgeball and hoping to commit injury, shame or strike points?

No, I am talking about like what Moses did to the that one body of water. I am wondering if Literotica users could waterbend. I am starting to think this community is just a large collective of wizards.

I guess it depends on what section I wander into then.

Some assume that Lit is all about the literature. That is not the case. Many on the GB poke fun at the authors. There are some authors on the GB who claim those (like myself) that do not write are freeloaders. I would imagine that is the same on the Playground and the How To Board but I am a GB scum and not allowed to frolic in the other pastures.

Chat room? :) Have fun with that.

Not that I am aware of. I'm in both right now and had no problem crossing any divide!

So many wizards to choose from, milady Elsie. We are nothing if not an eclectic community, you know!

Someone alert neci stat chat has virtual penises :D

It depends who you ask about the possible division between the forums and chat. Some of the chat people probably think we're rude, obnoxious, opinionated asshats and some from the playground forum may think we're cruel, hardhearted S.O.Bs.

Every forum/chat is different I guess. I suggest you wander around, get to know a few of us and settle where you find a good fit. :)

Welcome to the gb. We're all sʇnɟɓuıʞɔnu. Seriously RUN.

So...just getting back to this point after a bit of funnin' around since you're being serious...what kinda stuff are you writing? What's your kink, your bend, your juice?

Tell us about why you decided to write after reading in the background and what we can expect to read from you, so we can understand your gate more. From time to time the GB gets drop-ins like yourself making similar inquiries, but they never really expound on what their personal "mission statement" is...then they jet, never to be heard from again and we never get a chance to appreciate their craft, yanno.

Your experience of the General Board, or any of Literotica's forums, can be considerably improved by using the Ignore function to remove threads and posts by a very few people.

Less than 5 General Board people on Ignore will make the forum appear almost civilised and allow posts by the intelligent well-informed people who are capable of coherent text to show.

Too many people on Ignore and you would miss the spirited interaction.

Too few and you get the one-trick ponies banging on and on about a single issue.

I'm not sure yet, actually. I'll be sure to let you know when I get to a point where I can put a label (or two) onto it. Maybe I am just hesitant to speak about it until it's done. One of those things where if you speak about it before you complete it, you'll jynx it. Like you don't talk about getting a job before actually getting that job, you know? I guess I am superstitious.

That was funny!:)
On both sides

Fair 'nuff.

Lemme ask you this, though...did you come to Lit just wanting to read stuff here and then after a while of reading other people's stuff figured you could do stories as well, maybe even better...or were you already planning to write and looking to read in order to be inspired enough to get your own ideas out in script?

A little bit of both, actually. You're pretty spot on with your inquiries, by the way.

One of the authors that I frequented on here always had amazing buildup but when it got down to the sexual aspect kind of bombed in my eyes. Everything was thoughtfully laid out, and then it felt as if all of a sudden he started to write with his dick instead of his brain. I get that's what the sexual aspect is meant for, but it felt so unfulfilling. I wanted more out of it than what was being put into it. I'd often just decide to stop reading at certain points. I guess I am the type of person that really enjoys the priming of the situation more than the explosion itself. I read in order to be inspired though, absolutely. I most definitely don't think I can write something as well as, or better than others, because that's entirely subjective. I just felt like if others can write, then maybe I can too? Even if my audience ends up being one person, then I'm fine with that. I just wanted to try my hand at the canvas.

Funny. That's how I ended up here.
I was looking for both an escape and to collect english idioms for a huge write-up that was ahead of me,
so I thought to myself: better pick something where there's more in it for me. In the more biblical sense .

No time to chat.

Damn life gets in the way.

I waste enough time on forums anyway.

Time when I should be writing the stories I've plotted out.

Chat? I'll have time for chat when I'm bedridden and partially paralyzed.

Till then I'll spend my spare time with my East German concertina.

It's better-behaved than too many GB posters.

Feels and sounds lots better, too.

Even missing a button.
