OK, folks, this may be your last chance to vote on anything before Bush and his stormtroopers come goose-stepping into your home! It seems to me there's a definite push toward a police state in this country. Even what little semblance of freedom we have is being taken away! What do you think? Am I being paranoid here, or am I right on? Speak out, America-- this may be your last chance to do so!

Laughing...

Ummmm... A little hyperbole at work here?

I'm concerned about the use of the military tribunal by executive order, but having travelled a bit out of the country... and having friends who lived through apartheid in South Africa and in current Arab states, I find your premise a little too far out there. Kind of like the folks who were predicting a techno shutdown during Y2K.

Sorry man... Can't play with this one!

No hyp

Well, I hope it turns out to be hyperbole, but I'm not kidding here. I think we're all in serious danger of losing our freedom . . . that is, assuming we have any left to begin with.

Look out, George Orwell-- Big Brother is here!
:p

Police state?

To a certain extent the good old US of A has always been a police state. We are a country of many laws, rules and regulations. These have enabled us to become the greatest country that the history of mankind has ever seen. When I think of a true "Police State" I think of East Germany after World War II. I really do not believe that with all the checks and balances we have in our government and, most importantly, the citizens of this great country, would ever allow it to happen.

"Hope springs eternal"

Boy, are you an eternal optimist or what? And what-- you don't think Nazi Germany was a police state? Interesting!

:p

Remember the scene in "Quest for the Holy Grail...?"

Where Arthur tries to ask directions of the peasants working in the field? I think if there were a clever way to work in the dialogue about the inevitable use of violence to disenfranchise the proletariat... it would make this thread lots more fun.

I'm also curious wave if you are the receiver or the giver in your av? Please answer truthfully. Your answer is being recorded for future prosecution... and being electronically evaluated for its trustworthiness.

Secret Policeman #... Ooops, Almost let my true identity slip there.

Police state

Using East Germany was an example. I do not want to bore the Literotica readers with all of the police states that have ever existed. True freedom is anarchy - no one telling you what to do, only you doing what you want. The USA's type of freedom is not free. It is extremely hard to earn and keep. Our country has gone through cycles like what is going on now. Remember Japanese internment camps during WW II? We were not very proud of what we did then, but to ensure that the majority of the populace remained safe, it was a necessary evil at the time. Right now I can do anything I want any day of the week. As long as I do not break any laws I am fine. Unfortunately evil people have utilized our openness and are living amongst us. So, if it means that lets say 5000 people are inconvenyanced (sp?) to protect the other 300,000,000, GO FOR IT!

Am I being paranoid here, or am I right on? Speak out, America-- this may be your last chance to do so!

Not paranoid, just incredibly ignorant.

Would you care to define a police state?

Another rocket scientist. Tell me you're being sarcastic. Please.
Nobody is this ignorant.

Awwwwww Not another one....................................

Which two idiots?

Ah, Problem Child & Miles-- yeah, I figured it wouldn't take long for you two to show up, like bad pennies!:D But seriously now, PC, which two idiots are going to fight? You & Miles?

Anyway, where to begin? There's such a fertile filed here . . . gbd, I note that you dodged my question about whether Nazi Germany was a police state. Understandably, since your defense of the infamous internment camps during WWII betrays your fascist mentality!

Miles, you're the ignoramus, not me. I'm constantly reading from a variety of different sources, ranging from left to right, to keep up with current events. And what I see going on in this country today scares the hell out of me! If you can't see what I'm talkin' about here, you must be brain-dead!
:D

Over 1000 detained without any charges related to 9/11 brought against any of them, secret military tribunals, the Draconian "anti-terrorism" law, etc., etc., etc.-- my God, man, where have you been? Mars?

:p

permanent redwave

You asked "Am I being paranoid?" and I answered it, incorrectly I might add.

You aren't ignorant. Just really stupid. Don't bother replying, because I'm not going to respond.

Fucknoid.

Miles

Miles, everyone seems to be so idiotic to you. Let's hear some pearls of wisdom from you. Or you can only critize and not participate?

Yep

Good point, UnR. It's called projection and displacement. To an idiot like Miles, everyone else seems like an idiot! That's because he's projecting his own idiocy onto everyone else. And you notice he didn't respond to my substantitve points at all, just insulted me. Two can play at that game.

Miles, you scheisskopf!
:p

Dearest Darling Red,

I happen to agree with you that the patriot act is bad legislation, and Ashcroft makes me very nervous. I wish Bob Barr would go over to his office and kick his ass. I think the war on drugs is and always has been a hideous mistake.

But the fact that gbd said East Germany after the war was a police state does not mean he thinks Nazi Germany wasn't one. You calling him a fascist is unfair and shows that you don't want a discussion, but merely a fight.

And Miles didn't call you an idiot, I did. He called you a fucknoid, whatever that is.

Naah! Problem Miles or Miles Child, depending how you want to perceive him, isn't an idiot!

He's a teeny, weeny, playful imp...

:)

Ooooh, "Darling"-- I'm all aflutter!

O, PC, darling, I love you too, sweetheart!

:p

And thanks for clearing that up. I think a "fucknoid" is probably a robot that goes around fucking everything it sees. And to nickpick with you, I didn't call gbd a fascist-- I just said he had a fascist mentality.
:D

But I'm glad to know you agree with me on some things-- I must not be such an idiot after all, or if I am-- you are too! Ashcroft is a scary fuck, especially with the new powers the "anti-terrorism" law gives him. And I agree the "war on drugs" is really a war on our freedom and a war on the poor and minorities.

And re the discussion/fight thing, I'd really rather have a fairly calm, intelligent discussion than a fight. But I know from experience that when you & Miles get involved, a fight ensues & intelligent discussion goes out the window!

Hugs & Kisses,

REDWAVE

 Yes, the USA could possibly become a police state if we allow fear to rule our lawmaking. This Patriot Act business and whatever it is Ashcroft thinks he can do is unconstitutional. Due process is still there.

However, until the constitution is repealed along with our amended rights, it's ridiculous to call the US a police state.

Anarchy isn't freedom. Anarchy only works in Utopia, since Utopia is nothing more than a pipe dream at best and one man's version of heaven and everyone else's version of hell at worst Anarchy will never work. Anarchy is only total freedom for the strongest since Anarchy naturally assumes that all human beings will hold themselves responsible and accountable. Yeah. That'll happen. Chant Anarchy all you like. In an anarchist state there's no prison. Think about that.

Fascist....fascist mentality. Fascist...fascist mentality. Fascist....fascist mentality. Hmmmmm.

Oh! I get it, the difference is to be a REAL Fascist you need a Nazi uniform, other wise you only have the mentality, and that's not quite as scary. Is that right? Maybe I still don't see the difference.

Chill out on the smilies.

Let's talk, KM

Thanks for your contribution, Killer Muffin. I do respect your opinion . . . unlike those of some other people I might name.

However, I do think you're being just a little bit naive here when you say the constitution will prevent the US from becoming a police state. The ultimate guardian of constitutional rights is the U.S. Supreme Court. Do you really trust the current members of the Court to protect our rights? I don't. Didn't you hear about Sandra Day O'Connor recently coming out and saying publicly that the Court would likely uphold any restrictions on civil liberties Bush wants to ram through? For that matter, remember Bush v. Gore-- it was the Supreme Court that allowed Bush to usurp power in the first place!

Think about it, KM, and get back to me, OK?

:p

No it's a misspelling of "fuckturd" which his normal term of abuse...

:D

Bingo!

You got it, PC. And I think you'd look just smashing in a Nazi uniform! Will you dress up in one and let me suck your cock?
:p :D ;)

And what-- you think I'm overdoing the emoticon thing? Why, how could you possibly think that?
:p :p :p :D :p  :p
