Are you asking regarding the comic or the teevee show?
If your referring to the comic its pretty much the greatest comic ever written, epic is appropriate to it, the greatest scope, imagination, emotion.. I could go on..
The teevee show comes close to capturing the soul of the comic but has a long way to.go to reach its heights.
That being said its a damn fine story, it's been treated with the respect it deserves, they've changed a lot that I'm not entirely happy with but overall it's pretty special and absolutely worth getting into
I'm a few episodes in. The writer's bit about needing women and other races in the cast and crew of his movie is a wink to the audience about the cast of the show. So they could have cast anyone else as Dream, someone with a voice.
I find most of Neil Gaiman's works brilliant; Good Omens and American Gods are exceptional. The Sandman I was a little sceptical of at first because I couldn't envision Tom Sturridge in the role of Dream but by the second episode I was sold. Great comic and great series.
