Two things make me think he is dead or disabled:

1) No evidence of his existence has been presented by Iraqi media, at a time when it would doubtless be beneficial for propaganda purposes.

2) The strategy of putting Republican Guard units outside the city of Baghdad where they could be easily chopped up doesn't seem very Saddam-like. Before the war began, he was reportedly drawing all his resources into the city, where Iraqi soldiers would have to be rooted out of an urban environment at great cost to the coalition forces.

He was too damned egotistical not to be at the forefront, meeting crowds and firing his guns in the air. Nah, he's got to be dead.

he just this morning went on the air and seemed to have relative things to say about current events that would prove he is alive.

Unless this is just a look-alike

He is such a freak that i think he may be alive. like all horror movies we think the monster is dead and then he reappears.

I heard he's cruisin for babes at Hedonism III with his pal Osama.

Just a couple of wild and crazy guys!

Looking at a still photo from the BBC, he looks a little weird.

Do you know if the video is available anywhere?

I think he is dead. The clips being shown are being dismissed as those familiar with the setting as taped and not live. Combined with the appearance of his personal body guard with another Iraqi official when it's reported he has never left Saddam's side, leads me to believe he is dead.

If he is alive by some chance, I don't think he is in Baghdad. My money says Syria or Russia. I doubt we will find a body, living or dead for Hussein as Baghdad clears.

Alive

Vegas odds are 5-2 he's alive.

Funny they cut the power and then put him on TV... those wacky iraqis.

What about his boyzzz ???

I think it would be funny to see him on 60 min. in a couple of weeks discussing how he won the war.

Even if he is dead...the regime would never let it out. Especially if he was ko'd in that air raid on the first night. Shorter than an old Tyson fight if the public knew he was taking a dirt nap.

I remember hearing about that, too. In the video, "Saddam" mentioned the downed Apache helicopter from March 24, but that was the only specific event, apparently. If it is him, that would mean he was alive 11 days ago. The Iraqi Information Ministry promised, withing the last hour or so, "unconventional actions" would soon be taken, "not military," however, whatever that might mean.

His being out of the country would make sense, and possibly explain the lack of recent video messages. I still wonder about the woeful strategy of putting four divisions out in the desert to be blown to bits.

He's not.

I just asked Elvis.

He hasn't seen Saddam.
I asked Mohammed Atta, and he said he just saw Saddam run by being chased by a swarm of wasps.

It's hard to know what to believe — there's no honor amongst the dead anymore.

I hope you are not referring to me. I had honor a few hours ago.

lol — Good point. Saddam seemed disinclined to do that, though, before the thing started. He did have twelve years to meditate on his "highway of death" experience.

No, I meant Elvis and Atta.

Disembodied spirits just aren't as credible as they used to be.

Or did you mean Elvis & Saddam were alive?

Okay. So far, just a bit of fuzzy video on the BBC live feed, and a couple of still photos. If that's him, he seems to have done some major work on his eyebrows.

Dunno about Saddam. Neither I nor Elvis have seen him - yet.

Elvis isn't always here. He likes to return topside once in a while.

Me - I've been dead a long time. So has the Honor I had a few hours ago. Perhaps she's ready and willing again now.

Og.

Ah, okay — thanks.

(I probably never would have figured that out if you hadn't explained it.)

I don't doubt that Mohammed Atta is at a different level from you and Elvis. Still, he's probably a lot less reliable. The fog of the underworld must be worse than the fog of war.
