Is Rape Illegal?

Well, of course it is- but it doenst' necessarily have to be in your story. (I'm thinking sci-fi, fantasy, historical, alternate reality or something similer)

I'm not trying to be viscious or anything, just reminding us as readers, that not everybody always saw things the way we do today. A change of setting may make a huge difference in the kind of story you tell, or are able to tell. (Maybe that's why those 'bodice ripper' stories are nearly always historical)

Experiment with different moral and legal standards and their reprecusions on your story.

... but NEVER tell the truth about two seventeen year olds who are married to each other.

Two married seventeen year olds- that is a different topic all together. The rule for the site is over 18, because that is the rule for the site. There are other sites that dont' have that rule. However, their is a non-consnt category and I was just pointing out that there are some different ways to think about it.

I do realize that some people abhor that category. I think almost everyone has at least one that they hate. (Usually incest or non-consent) This seems to call up some resentment about the rules they don't like. But the post isn't about what rules you like or dislike- its about the existing categories.

Sorry if it offends anyone. But lets stay on topic. (or let it drop as the case may be)

I was reading about women having rape fantasies. I'm sure any women who had ever been raped would be against this. But I have read where some couples use this fantasy in their love making games.

I know women have rape fantasies, and so do men (as the rapees). This has no relation to the actual act of course.

Well, if you want to write rape, then you better forget the moral standards and legal issues - just put them aside. Some people tend to make the stories move to consent, i.e. have the female get to like it. I personally find such stories boring, and not really non-consent.

Rape is illegal, but has nothing or little to do with a majority of non-consent fantasies in my view. I have written a couple of non-consent stories, and in no way condone, glorify or invite rape. To me it is more about control - for instance, taking away the need to make a decision, or removing any guilt at wanting sex.

:D

Yes, that's as maybe.

But the non-consent category on lit, isn't really about non-consent is it?

Actually, aren't there areas of the world where rape of a wife is legal today (i.e. a married woman cannot legally refuse her husband)?

If so, imagine a very real story of a couple traveling to such a place and the husband deciding he wants to stay.

Alternative: wife knows the laws of the country and wants to live there for a week with her husband to experience it. She knows that once she crosses the border she will be raped. She trusts him to take her home, but trust is all she has.

Imagine trusting someone enough to do it...

A bunch of thoughts

As I read the posts here, a number of things come to mind.

1) In times past (historical) it was common that if a man killed another man, the man could take the loser's wife as his concubine. She more or less had to go along with it because she still needed a man to support her and her children.

2) In war, it was common to for the victor to rape the vanquished. We tried the Japanese for the Rape of Nanking because it was against our morals, not theirs. Or consider the more recent rape of Kuwait by the Iraqis. (I'm not sure where Muslim law stands on this. But the Book of Leviticus in the Old Testament allows this.)

3) If a woman agrees to have sex with a man only in exchange of his support of her and her children...
Is it really non-consent?
Is she a prostitute?
Or is she the man's wife?

Hey Wow!

I just noticed that I'm finally 'Experienced'! :D
After 20 years of marriage and three kids, I'm no longer a virgin!
