Well, of course it is- but it doenst' necessarily have to be in your story. (I'm thinking sci-fi, fantasy, historical, alternate reality or something similer)
I'm not trying to be viscious or anything, just reminding us as readers, that not everybody always saw things the way we do today. A change of setting may make a huge difference in the kind of story you tell, or are able to tell. (Maybe that's why those 'bodice ripper' stories are nearly always historical)
Experiment with different moral and legal standards and their reprecusions on your story.
