I wouldnt say that. Even in the early 20's and 30's, especially in the more affluent circles. While adultery on a womans part, has historically always been condemned. Men were allowed more leeway. Men had "needs" and "boys will be boys" . Women were always expected to accept and forgive.

Oh, there certainly was a double standard of sexual morality for most of American history. But I do not believe it was ever the case here, as it has been in many cultures, that "adultery" or "infidelity" is by definition a sin only a woman can commit.
