At the risk of sounding like some throwback idiot, there are certain characters who are, at the core, male characters. Just like there are certain characters who are female characters. Because like it or not, that is what defines the character. A male Wonder Woman just wouldn't work, any better than a female James Bond or a female Doctor Who (yeah, I know.) Which is not to say you couldn't make a good action movie about a strong badass female British spy, or a male badass character who uses a lassoo and flies an invisible jet. Just don't call it "James Bond" or "Wonder transWoman" or whatever.
