IS MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATED AT UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA?
No better time than today to remind you of what happened recently at The University of Georgia. Plans were underway to erect a memorial on the UGA campus to all former UGA students who gave their lives serving in the uniform of our armed services. One student at UGA, a graduate student named Laura Chason, didn’t “like” the idea. It wasn’t “inclusive” enough. It only honored UGA students who gave their lives in the uniform of U.S. armed forces? What about the people who fought and died for other nations?

So --- one leftist grad student simmering in the rancid stew of political correctness gets her way, and the former UGA students who died in service to the United States don’t get their memorial.

While we pause today to give honor the memory of those who gave their lives in the cause of freedom, let us also give thanks that the Laura Chasons of this world are few and far between and that the task of defending freedom wasn’t placed on the backs of people like her. I wonder how she spend her Memorial Day?

YOU NEED THIS LADY ON YOUR PAYROLL !!!!!!

Hey! Employers!

Wow! Do I have an employee for you! She’s about to graduate from the University of Georgia with an advanced degree!

Her name is Laura Chason. Write that name down and send your corporate recruiters to Athens … you’ll have to be first in line to snare this up-and-comer. And what a wonderful employee you’ll have …..

For starters … if you are the lucky employer that snags Laura Chason you’ll have a valued employee who has done extensive research in something called “human geography.”

I seem to remember having some interest in human geography when I was in college. Texas A&M was an all-male school when I was attending, though, so I had to go to Baylor University in Waco, or head down to Cougar High (The University of Houston) to find any human geography worth studying. I developed an affinity for the mountainous regions.

… Let’s get back to Laura Chason ……..

With Laura Chason on your team you’ll also have someone who will be constantly on the lookout for any policy decision or initiative coming from your office that carries the slightest scent of exclusivity. Can you imagine just how valuable that will be to your company?

OK – now you’re asking what I mean by “exclusivity.” Perhaps the best way to explain this would be to tell you of one of Laura Chason’s greatest accomplishments at UGA.

Someone at the University of Georgia came up with a radical idea. Simply put, the idea was to elect a memorial on the UGA campus to honor all UGA students who gave their lives in military service to the United States. ( UGA, in case you didn’t know, is located in the United States.)

There are several things that Laura Chason didn’t like about this idea for a memorial.

First of all, Laura doesn’t like the fact that it’s called a “Peace Memorial” instead of a “War Memorial.” This would lead one to the intemperate belief that Ms. Chason doesn’t believe that peace is something worth fighting for. She’s upset because the memorial would only have the names of people who died in war. What a horrible thing to do … to die fighting for your freedom. You know, the Soviet Union used to describe “peace” as “an absence of opposition to world-wide communism.” I would be interested in hearing Chason’s definition.

Laura Chason also doesn’t like the memorial because, as Chason says, “A war memorial by its nature is going to exclude someone on this campus – females, non-Anglo males, African Americans, homosexuals and international students.” She’s right. It even goes further than that! The memorial would exclude the name of every UGA student who didn’t die in military service to our country.

Do you want to see what a human brook-trout looks like? Walk up to Laura Chason and tell her that this memorial would include the name of EVERY female, non-Anglo male, African American, homosexual and international students who lost their lives in military service to America. That’s the ONLY criteria – not race, not sexual orientation, not your nationality. Did you lose your life serving in America’s armed forces? You’re in! Say this to Laura Chason – stand back – and watch her sitting there gasping for air.

Well --- this all seems harmless enough, doesn’t it? So what if some leftist graduate student raises a little ruckus over a memorial to UGA’s war dead. What harm can she do? Every campus has it’s curiosities.

I’ll tell you what harm she can do. After Laura Chason raised here objections the University Council’s Executive Committee votes 7-6 against the memorial. Yale has one. Harvard has one. So does Princeton. The University of Georgia, however, will not have a memorial to its war dead because Laura Chason was offended by the idea. Stop and think for a moment. Who would you say made a greater contribution to their heritage and their country; any one of the students whose name would have appeared on that memorial? Or Laura Chason?

You might be interested in knowing that most of the people who climbed on the Chason bandwagon and voiced opposition to this memorial were female faculty members. That leads us into some other fun areas to explore.

I have no idea what Laura Chason’s major is at UGA. I am willing, though, to put a few bucks on a little bet here. Check back on Laura Chason in about five years. My bet is that she’ll be working somewhere as a …… female faculty member.

By the way --- I asked Belinda to read this bit before we included it in the notes today. Belinda is a UGA graduate. She says that Laura Chason needs to go do something constructive … like burning her bra.

LAURA CHASON IS HEARD FROM
A week or so ago I told you about University of Georgia graduate student Laura Chason. Chason single-handedly stopped a memorial planned for the UGA campus – a memorial honoring all UGA students and alumni who have given their lives in military conflicts to preserve liberty. Chason didn’t like the monument because it was “exclusive.” In other words, it didn’t include people who had fought in the uniforms of foreign countries. Chason was also upset that the memorial might include UGA alumni who gave their lives in Vietnam. Additionally, Chason didn’t like the implication that peace could result from conflict.

I’ve provided a link to Laura Chason’s recent column below. One thing, though, stands out and I want to bring it to your intention.

I’m talking about Chason’s struggle with the word “peace.” Different political factions seem to be able to change the definition of the word “peace” to suit their own political goals. The Soviet Communists, for instance, used to define “peace” as “the absence of opposition to world communism.” This meant that communist leaders and ideologists felt that there would be no peace until communism faced no opposition. To the Soviets, if their communist imperialism met with conflicting ideas, there could be no peace.

Now --- these words from Laura Chason. She says that “’Conflict’ and ‘peace’ are not synonymous.”

Well, maybe not Ms. Chason. But the fact is that when peace, liberty and freedom are threatened – you can’t resolve the threat without conflict.

Reading Chason’s column only strengthens my earlier opinion. Check back with her in five years and you’ll find her working ----- in academia. She’s a natural.

MEMORIAL DAY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA?

Still looking for word that University of Georgia leftist grad student Laura Chason is going to mount a protest against any observance of Memorial Day on the UGA campus. This is the woman, you know, who holds no special place in her heart for UGA former students who gave their lives in the uniform of our armed forces.

SOMETHING FOR LAURA CHASON

I am troubled by the continued presence of Laura Chason on the University of Georgia campus. I can handle it, though, because I can handle the concept of true free speech.

Chason, for those of you who just came in, is the graduate student who killed a proposal for a memorial on the UGA campus to former students who gave their lives in military service to our country.

Chason has refused an invitation to come on the show with me to discuss her leftist ideas. Good choice.

Here’s something attributed to Father Denis O'Brian, of the US Marine Corps. Maybe someone at the UGA campus could copy it off and present it to Laura.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, serves under the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

Todd you are very deep. Glad you are so passionate. I am not inclined to spend paragraphs of thoughts on this because my brain is not functioning well today, but I agree with you. Our freedom as we have known it was fought by brave men of this country. It is quite ridiculous to bring in other countrys into this. What the hell, why don't we have students whose relatives fought for Hitler demand that there causes were just as good and ..............

I believe that article was written by Neal Boortz, and not Tod the virgin.

What I CANNOT understand, is, at my college, we have Thansgiving off, but we don't have Memorial Day off. What's wrong with this picture. So now giving thanks is more important than remembering Veterans.

I am applying the the University of Georgia's doctoral program and I have some familiarity with the area. Once the blue blood boosters hear about it, I'm sure there will be a veterans memorial....it may have to come after a football memorial but it will come.

Veterans deserve every honor and respectful gesture we can extend. Unless you are there, you cannot know what it is like to put your life on the line...I personally could not imagine it.
