Is "Lost" by Varian P the best story on this site?

There are many fantastic stories, but for some reason this one seems to have been written head and shoulders above the rest. The story might start too typical for some, but there are some passages that are just immaculate. I'm bummed that it's an incest story, but you could probably replace the three characters with folks that aren't related and it'd still work as well.

Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone agrees. If you read it, is it the best story you've read on this site?

No, I don't agree. I reviewed "Lost" for the contest it was entered in when it came out and had a long exchange with Varian on the points where I felt it wasn't developed well enough as a story--mostly disconnects and missing opportunities. It was so well written, my gut wanted to say it was the best in the contest, but on overall points, I didn't put it in the top three in the contest even.

That said, I think Varian is one of the best writers and storytellers (double crowns) I've read on this site. And I edited an eXcessica book for her that I thought was better, overall, than "Lost."

If I was assessing on use of language only, I might well agree with you. And perhaps that's the only criteria you were considering.

Lost is quite popular and highly rated as an eXcessica e-book.

I personally feel that its quite a nice story. It has an interesting stroyline, something uncommon from all the common storyline in literotica. Good story.

Varian is my favorite writer but that wasn't my favorite story. I'm awful with titles, but the doomsday story, now no longer posted, was my favorite.

There can be no 'best' story, all judgements are personal. In this light, I disagree with you and sr.

Varian is a highly skilled fiction writer who I love reading, but 'Down' leaves many obvious questions unanswered.

I think sr dodges the issue with his slightly arrogant analysis of the story. Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code is poor fiction but a global phenomenon - that is the readership talking.

With stories, there can never be a 'best'. My adoration for Turgenev as the greatest novelist of all time is personal. If you prefer Twain, I respect your opinion, but politely disagree with you.

Thanks for the "arrogant" crack. But if you want to bring the readership into it, Varian didn't win, place, or show in the contest "Lost" was entered in--so the readership spoke in terms of its coalesced judgment of "best story."

This isn't a comment on Varian's writing ability--only on the arrogance of your own posting.
