The last couple of days I can get to my home page and any aspect of it and I can get to the forum no problem. I can get to Lit's home page as well but there is no graphic and further down is fragmented text. The links for new stories is simply text.

But on my page if someone comments and I click the story to see it, I get the long spin before all I see is some fragments of links. Same when I went to look at the favorites portal. But I can see comments through the works page.

I can click on the link for Summer lovin stories and its fine, but clicking on the Dark Fairy Tales link gives me the broken page.

I'd think its lit but I've had some weird issues with other sites lately, and I've cleared the cache and all that, but lit is the one that seems really hit and miss right now.

This is definitely on my end. The only AV I can see is my own. I think I need to look at the flash player or something like that.

That's a network hardware issue.

Every web page you see comes into your computer as a series of "packets" of info which your computer reassembles to display the page. If one of those packets is dropped, the webpage is incomplete.

Your browser is displaying what it received. But somewhere in the multitude of routers and network hardware, a packet was lost. The network protocols are designed to prevent that and have those lost packets resent. But as hardware ages, accidents happen.

Not seeing those issues. Have you tried the generic advice?
  • Try a private/incognito window
  • Clear cache and cookies

I did, I restarted it yesterday and everything was fine. I just restarted again now and its fine. Something is happening at some point while its running. I'll have to have tech support AKA my wife, take a look at this.

As I said, it's a network issue.

And the last two steps in that network chain are via your home router and the network card/adapter/wifi link in your computer. If either of those are old devices, it might be an intermittent problem with a chip going bad.

Pc is only three years old, but I'll mention it to the IT guys at work, maybe they have an idea.

They're fine with people bringing in their personal devices and helping them fix issues for the bubble but I think we all know why I would not be eager for anyone to get a look into my PC.

You might be surprised: “Wait… you’re the Lovecraft68? Damn I read all your stuff on Literotica and I’ve even contributed to your kids’ college fund via my online purchases of your stories!”

Or you might get fired.

Yeah, either of those could happen.

But I think my viewing habits on some extreme porn fetishes and history of occult ideologies and horror obsession would lead to the latter.

I have a graphics computer I bought for a VR system my grandkids use when they visit. That computer's network card went bad after it was just three years old (it's now 9 years old). I had to add a USB network adapter to keep it working.

But I have another computer in the house which has been running 24/7 for ten years (it's a file server) and both of its network ports are still fine.

Sometimes things go bad sooner than later.

As for my "private" files, I keep all of that on a memory chip which I can remove from this tablet. But my kids all know I write this crap. (My wife once told my daughter she should review and edit some of my stuff!)

I had a quandary when my son and his partner moved back into the house. I told him what I'm writing -- which guarantees he doesn't want to read it. I avoided telling his partner, but finally it came out and she actually helped read the first few chapters of my novel. I still don't ask her to read anything that has a high sex content.

She wants to be a fantasy novelist, so we do talk about writing sometimes and share thoughts and ideas.

Have you tried on your phone? If it works well on there, it'll be certain it's the pc.
I do very little on my phone, my vision is a bit iffy these days, how people write on them I have no idea.

I did some updates and things seem to be working better, but the same thing happened the other day, so I wonder if I got some bug somehow. Visit sketchy porn sites it can happen

I figured you didn't, it was just a quick way to check.

I have had intermittent issues recently such as you describe. Only affects some sites some of the time (maddening). Often unable to connect to Lit or other miscellaneous sites. Even Google advanced search will be glitchy like that. I use a Windows 11 desktop, Chrome browser. Can happen on normal or incognito window. Clearing cache, etc. does not help. Then it gets better.

Exact same thing and its not the broswer because edge, Mozilla and Chrome all do the same thing. if I restart everything is okay for a time, then it wigs out again

Well, looking at my score summary yesterday, there were some wild changes. I figured it was a bug and it apparently was, for things are back to normal today.

I'm having a thing where the New Stories page won't display correctly (doesn't show author names or category).

In a Private Window, it works.

For the person suspecting malware is at play and willing to follow the provided directions, go here (https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-help/) and do what the preparation guide says, post, and in a few days you’ll get expert advice. (Answerers are not the general population, but vetted volunteers qualified to reply knowledgeably. This is different to many advice sites.)

Their reputation is impeccable (I hate the ad popups and overlays they resort to but I suppose it pays some bills).

I'll check that out, thanks

I've had to use the bleeping computer experts once or twice over the years. They're damn good.

Running Malwarebytes is almost always an early step in their suggestions from what I've seen, and is a good place to start any time you suspect you might have some kind of bug on your system.
