Is it undomly to own a cat?

Cats are known for over-running their owners lives. People end up being slaves to their pet cat's whims. I certainly have seen it in my most of my friends who own cats. An ex-girlfriend had four cats (which is bordering on "cat lady" status) and she fed then better than she fed herself.

Anyway, I have a more realistic relationship with my cat. Yes, I provide daily food and clean water. I clean out the litterbox 2-3 times a week. I brush her fur once a week or as needed. But those are the obligations of being a pet owner. :catroar:

She doesn't change my sleeping habits, disrupt my normal routine or drive me to bankruptcy. We share a few minutes in the morning and evening, she can sleep by my feet if my girlfriend doesn't stay over, but she doesn't monopolize my time. She might walk by a few times, mewing or purring, wanting to be held. But I give her a few petting strokes, talk to her for a few seconds...then I turn back to what I was doing. She quietly accepts it and goes on her way.

If I haven't bathed for a few days, kitty will get into bed while I'm sleeping and lick my backhair to help me with grooming. Lately she has been playing with Q-tips and the other day she tried to stick one in my ear. So I think my cat tries to shower me with attention...not the other way around.

So is it undomly to own a cat? Would it be more domly to own a dog or a reptile?

Just about all of the Dommes I have been involved with have had cats, either exclusively or among other animals.

So no, it's not undomly - just unmanly. :catroar:

lol, I like cats..... then again I'm a subbie, so this is kind of a moot post :cathappy: .

Only a wuss needs an animal he knows he can control and manipulate.

But of course. :D Although I'm a dog owner myself. ;)
Somehow, I ended up with my daughter's cat, who turned 15 in December. Her real deal with me is screaming at me when I don't have a shirt on so she can lay on my chest when I'm sleeping. lol
Otherwise, we get on fine.

lol, netz makes a good point, what's the fun in controlling an animal that just complies with everything. In short, I don't like dogs, I'm the only one that's allowed to be clingy :)

Submissive/bottom/and wuss - I have chosen to live with dogs over cats at present, but I adore animals in general.

My top has four cats and nine birds - adding my dog to her household on the weekend - life on the edge! ;)

Anything related to a lion has to be a Domly pet. What a life. Sitting in the shade, fucking, and being fed fresh kill.

And you can leave cats for several days. If you have more than one, they won't even miss you much.

Hmm... Nope, I don't think so. That being said, my roomate who is a PYL has a dog and I, the subbie chick have a cat. I don't spoil Eeyore massively rotten; maybe a little more spoilage than Mr. Blonde does. Now then, kat spoils Riley (the dawg) majorly! If it weren't for Eeyore displaying a little cross species domination every now and again (like every 10 minutes or so!) we'd have a spoiled puppy.

I consider myself a Dom. I think a few others do, too. And, they have the marks to prove it. I have four cats. I've had at least four cats for over twenty years, now. I don't feel eny less dominant than I did before the first cat arrived.

Now, I like dogs, too. In fact, any animal is cool. So, in answer to your question,...No. OK?

Owning a little poodle could be considered unDomly. Sharing your domain with a cat or two? Not even close to unDomly. I look forward to having a cat again in the future.

You ever notice the bad guy in the movies always has a cat? What's with that? Guessing it's to show his perversity -- can't even own a dog like a regular guy, or some such. I always thought it showed a certain independence, a lack of bowing to convention, to wit, a more catlike nature. (Always a good thing.)

Maybe un-Domly, but not un-Dommely. *grin*

I have cats and it is clearly understood I make the rules. For example, they are not allowed in my office, ever. So they quietly sit just outside the doorway waiting for me to come out. They come when I call and leave when I snap my fingers.

By the same token, they know I prefer them over most people and will tussle to get the spot next to me on the couch.

They sound well-trained silverlily, sounds very dommely lol :)

I don't think it's un-domly (or domme-ly) to own a cat. I do think it's undomly to worry about whether owning a cat is domly.

Maybe that's why I've never really thought about it, one way or another.

I don't think owning a cat could possibly be un-domly. I just got my first kitty and am totally smitten, little Rhys is going to end up spoiled rotten but then again I think I am allowed to spoil my pet when I don't have an SO to serve and spoil.

LOL, we have 4 cats and a dog - one of the cats is a total mama's boy (that would be my baby) and one of them is a bully/Dominatrix to the dog *rolls on floor laughing*. It's pretty funny to see Mia, who maybe weighs 2 lbs, she is a very small cat, bullying Chaos, who is a 50+ lb pitbull mutt. We do have some training issues, but you know, it happens.

So, yeah, I agree with everyone else - it is not at all un-Dom/me-ly to own a cat.

My sister owns a cat and has figured a means of training the feline - while a bit cruel in her ways of doing so, it is still humane to do so.
