Hey all.

I'm a little upset because my boyfriend's mom and I are in a bit of a struggle. She wants my boyfriend to go with her to Ohio for the holidays, and I want him to go to California with me.

I just got a new job, and I mean it's so new I haven't even started yet. Orientation is tomorrow. I don't know what days I have off for Christmas, because, well, it's three months away and I don't even have a job really, but my boyfriends mom wants me to tell her right now what days exactly I will be in California so she can buy my boyfriend plane tickets.

Should I be offended that she's pressuring me like this ? I would like to go to Ohio too, but they're buying tickets THIS WEEK and I seriously don't know what is going to be happening at that point in time, plus of course at the moment I have two dollars in checking and five in savings and...counting on fingers...that's it!

ARGH! Advice?

Yes, absolutely. Don't start until Thanksgiving at the earliest.

In response to the rest of your post; Your SO's mom is -and I'm saying this with all objectivity- being a total bitch. She's pressuring you to predict almost three months into the future, not to mention that she is totally disregarding the fact that you're going into something more or less unknown, which I know firsthand is intimidating.

If I were in your position, I'd probably tell her to blow off and give me a chance to figure it out. I wouldn't be technically offended, but I would be rather pissed off.

Anyway, good luck with the job and everything.

Crikey, what a difficult situation. Perhaps a few cold beers will clarify the situation, especially one like this. I plan for Christmas 362 days per year, only take off for Christmas Eve, Christmas and Boxing Day. I still have my tree up....from Christmas 2000. It is lit right now. Rather odd, it is a non traditional tree. Its a fake palm with white lights. Very elegant and tropical ( and plastic).

I hope you can work out your situation.

Merry Christmas :)

You should work in retail.

Not only have I planned for Christmas.

I ordered Christmas merchandise months ago. We've been talking about Christmas for weeks. I have already received a bunch of it, with even more to follow. I have stocked some of it out on the sales floor. I have a ton in the stockroom.

I already am itching to sell down my Halloween to get more Christmas merchandise out. I have to have all my Christmas out right after Halloween for inventory. Then I wonder if I will get a good sell through, and not have to closeout too much.

Then in January, while Christmas is fresh in our minds, we order for next year.

I'm sick of Christmas already.

I about shit when I saw this, but about 2 weeks ago my wife and I were at the Mall and the little area where they had the travelling NASA display earlier this summer had been completely redone and opened as...

CHRISTMAS LAND!!

In August.

Needless to say we shuffled off to Starbucks to hide from this wanton display of commercialism.

I may be a wee bit nuts about Christmas at home, but I do not much care to see it in the malls until after Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day.... It is a bit much/

I am also way out there because I really try to keep the religious side of Christmas as my focal pointe. I go to Midnight Mass every year. Though once, after a Christmas Party, I totally forgot the Lord's Prayer (OMG!!) and I sang O Come All Ye Faithful at the top of my lungs!!! My Priest was none too surprised when I came to confession a few days later....O well!! He said at least I had the Church in mind.

I know you want an easy answer but there isn't one. You will have to tell her nicely that you can't commit due to your job and if she must have an answer now it will be you can't attend. Then the ball will be in her court and maybe she will figure out you don't HAVE to decide right now.

If this turns into a huge issue with her don't expect it to get better with time.

Remember any advice I give is worth exactly what you paid for it.
Good Luck.

as for the subject of the thread, well it isnt to early it never is, hell get the stuff on sale when you can and hide it away
