News: Charlie Batch is out for the rest of the season with a seperated shoulder, meaning that rookie Mike McMahon will start his first NFL game at QB for the Lions. The future is now for coach Mornhinweg's hand picked "QB of the future".

Views: What I like about McMahon is his ability to escape the rush, though sometimes he leaves the pocket too soon for his recievers to complete their routes. He has excellent speed, and I think that the Lions have put in some plays to take advantage of his mobility. He is going to need it. Tampa Bay has one of the best D-Lines in the league, and Detroit has nobody that can block Warren Sapp. The O-line is very young, and the veterans are not very good. I would like to think that this kid can be a good NFL QB, lets just hope he doesn't get ruined like many other potential QB's in Detroit were. Look no further than the sidelines, and witness, the last best hope for the team, with his arm in a sling. Yes, I think Batch coulda been a good one if the O-line could have protected him. Every year though, he has spent atleast parts of each seaon injurred. 4 years, 4 serious injuries, enough said.

I sure hope this doesn't fuck up their perfect season. New blood might spoil the brew.

LMFAO!!!

ya know, my friend and I were talking about this the other night.....they could actually win a couple games with this guy, and end up with the fourth or fifth pick in the draft. Personally, I don't care where they pick, I just don't want them to lose every single game. It looks like their chances are dwindling, the only game that I see on the schedule where they have a reasonable chance of winning is against Dallas, and they have improved their play lately, so I just dunno anymore.

Never bet against Detroit though, they're playing like San Diego last year. Losing games by sheer incompetence and last second miracles on the other side of the ball. They're destroying better's margins across the board.

Barry Sanders

You should have given him more than Ken Griffey, Jr

He wuz the only reason you made it to the playoffs

Sorry:eek:

STP,

First and foremost, let's get something out of the way upfront.........the Lions will not beat the Cowboys. (I am of course biased in this reasoning.........:D )

Secondly, Batch will not be with the Lions next year, my prediction. McMahon might be the Man next year in Detroit. Not sure but that is a gut feeling. Batch wants out. He gets abused every year by a depleted OL. That is why Barry retired. No OL to support him in any way...........the Lions (along with the Cowboys) are better than their records show.

As for the Lions draft pick..........I say throw all the games and get a better shot at No. 1. :D I do hope that the Lions win a game, they are better than that, of course this is just IMHO. My Cowboys might be bad, but my season is complete given that the Redskins are officially our BITCH this season. We own them. I did not think my 'Boys would have a good season this season anyhow so 3 wins is fine with me.

Good Luck today.

I'm sorry, you obviously have no IDEA what went on with Barry. It was not an issue of money. Every time Sanders' contract was set to expire, the Lions opened renegotiations with his agents, and paid him what he deserved. Barry quit for one reason, and only one reason. He did not WANT to play football anymore. It is as simple as that. Believe me, Millen has been trying to lure Barry out of retirement since he took over this team, and he gets the same answer every time they talk..."want to play some golf?"
He was given the opportunities to be traded to a contender and balked every time. If he still wanted to play, don't you think he would be playing right now? The Raiders made a serious pitch to Detroit for him, and they are one of the better teams in the AFC, do you not think that if Barry wanted to play for a contender, he wouldn't have loved to have been on the same team as Jerry Rice?

Chuckus...I think you will get a kick out of this one....

Leave it to the Lions to fail, at failure....even it they do NOT win a game this year, the Lions will not get the #1 pick in the upcoming draft, that honor goes to the expansion Houston Texans! No, the best Detroit can hope for is the #2 pick, go figure!:p

I agree with you though that Batch will not be the starter next year, It will be McMahon. McMahon would probably have gotten the job next year even if Batch had not gotten hurt, he was picked by Mornhinweg for one reason and one reason only, to be the Lions starting QB. Mornhinweg was just reluctant to start a rokie QB behind that OL. Can you blame him?

IT's time to go to my buddies and watch the game....I'll check back on this thread when I return...

Good luck to everyone except Tampa Bay!!!! they dont need it lol

:D :D :D

I was very embarrassed when the Pack managed to beat Detroit at something like 29-27. It's almost like a loss.

Sorry, darlin, but fax is fax and the Lions are more like the Grannies lately. But everyone has a slump and everyone has bad years. The thing is to get through them. I remember when the Pack could only toss a perfect pass to someone on the other team.

I think the problem is that there is no confidence and no leadership over there. No one player is going to solve the team's problems, it's got to be all of them. You can't win when you have confidence in yourself.

Can't blame him..............and for whatever reason we are on the same page as far as McMahon goes..........Good Luck today STP. Hope y'all win one.

Well, the Lions once again managed to grasp defeat from the claws of victory! I should not be surprised that Keyshawn Johnson's first TD reception of the year would be a game winner in the final minute, against Detroit.

I was, however, quite impressed with the composure that Mike McMahon showed. He did not panic and throw the ball up for grabs, rather, he felt the pressure, evaded it, and then either threw a pass that no one could catch but one of his recievers, or threw the ball out of bounds. He took a sack when he had to, but he did an excellent job of avoiding them. He didn't get them into the endzone though, and that is a concern, because one TD would have won this game for them. Then again, one stop on fourth down could have too.

Oh well, bring on the Vikings!

STP,

Welcome to being a Red Sox fan. After awhile you get accustomed to your soul being ripped out every year.

But it's not the same.....The Sox have atleast made it to the dance before tearing your hearts out...these guys, they just, they just......SUCK!!!

STP, I don't see how you can call yourself a fan. I mean, your beloved Motor City Felines are on the verge of a complete shutout. How often does a fan get a chance to witness this? Miami? Tampa? Hell, it never happens in a cold climate. Sit back and enjoy your team's brush with greatness. But gird your loins for that Cowboy showdown. It could be the end of the line for your dreams right at the precipice of perfection. Good luck, cause their going to need it.
