When you're babysitting, is it okay to make the kid bring you beer from the fridge?
Are the rules different when the kid is related to you - like, I could have my nephew fetch me beer, but not someone's else's kid?
I'm kinda new to this authority-figure thing.

Unless the kid's parents are against drinking or something, I see no problem with it.

Just as long as you don't tell him to help himself to a beer as well, you should be ok.

No, wait. That's when European parents let their kids have wine with dinner. Lower risk of alcoholism that way. Never mind.

Hey, my great-grandparents used to put whiskey in their kids' baby bottles to get them to sleep.

And I bet that their kids got a pack of Lucky Strikes in their Christmas stockings as well.

Are you crazy??

It was unfiltered Camels.

And as a special treat after dinner they got a plug of chaw?

It's a wonder humanity managed to survive for as long as we have ...

It's only okay if you offer him a sip. I mean's fair's fair.

And if you ask him to make you a sandwich to go with the beer, then you have to offer him half the beer.

So refreshing to have authoritative guidance on this, 3113. So many are wishy washy on these issues.

Hey, the kids got to learn that T.A.N.S.T.A.A.F.L. If you're getting then you got to give, and vica versa.

Good . We have a principle, as well.

TANSTAAFL is the moto of the people living in the cities on the moon. Hienline was a true visionary. a lot of the things that we have today were concieved by him first. Waterbeds, microwave ovens, ect...and he wasn't a dry writer like Asimov.

You may find him easier to look up as Heinlein. Spelling counts, sometimes...

*playful smack* Didn't your mama ever tell you that it's impolite to correct a lady?...never mind the fact that I'm no lady. ;) I've never been able to spell his name right. Every time I think I've finally got it right I discover that I've put the "i"s and "e"s in the wrong friggin' spots again. *sigh* Besides, Google would find Hienline as easily as Heinlein...I ought to know.

I loved Heinlein for years. Not Starship Troopers, but certainly The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress and Stranger In A Strange Land, both of which rank with Swift as satires.

I loved Time Enough For Love, too.

You?

Oh, yes. All three are on my top 10 fav list. I actually really enjoyed Starship Troopers, but there are only a couple of books that I can think of of his that I didn't like to one degree or another. One being Number of the Beast. It started off ok, but quickly became convoluted and ludicrous. I adore Time Enough for Love, but toward the end it becomes rather ridiculous as well. It was almost like he didn't know when to stop writing the book, like he felt the story wasn't complete, but really didn;t have any more to say so he started babbling.
