Is it just me?

I have submitted three stories to this site and two of them were, I will admit, not as good as my first. I got excited after my first one and submitted the others too soon. Anyway, what I think is funny is that it seems to me that people are quick to condem by voting on the ones they think are bad but are slow to vote on the ones they think are good. Which brings me back to the subject, is it just me or does anyone agree?

you will find that certain people here find it much easier to trash instead of encourage. I know from first hand experience. Just keep writing for yourself and when you become successful, that will be the ultimate revenge. :D

i have read your two recent stories and the only real complaint that i would have is it may have been better to have had them placed in nonconsent instead of lesbian, but that's just my opinion. it's possible that others are of the same opinion and that's why you got low votes.

but who knows? people are weird. i thought they were ok lesbian stories from my male perspective. not the greatest, but alright.

voting

personally, if I think a story deserves less than a 3 I don't vote, I send some feedback by e-mail. Of course, this could be counter-productive, since a writer might ignore the feedback, and only look at the number on the voting. But that's just me.

Just wanted to say thank you for the replies. No matter what is said I will keep submitting. I have actually gotten very good feedback also, so it's all good as far as I am concerned. I made a huge mistake of looking at my rating and not listening to my feedback. Thanks again.

No doubt. "amyfirst" aptly identifies one problem, those of us reading this, ready to provide some insight, have no links to your offerings. Thus creating work for us. Can you fix this, I'd aptly provide some constructive crit. as I do love a good story.

whoops, i spelled it wrong in my link. i feel so ashamed. oh well, i'll get over it.

I don't know how to put a link to my stories. If anyone could help me with that I would gladly do it. Thanks

Oh, and while I am at it, what's up with that "virgin" thing under my name? I am new to this site and obviously don't know what I am doing.

i did it up in my post(two above you). i'm not very good at giving or taking directions though. i'm a trial and error type person. there is a button for ( the one marked http://) in the post reply window. you type in what you want the link to say first then hit ok or enter or whatever the button says then paste (or type if you have a good memory) the address in the second dialogue thingy that pops up immediately after. hope that is helpful.

that refers to your post count. after 30 you'll become experienced, after 100 very experienced and so on and so on. after 1000 you'll get to choose your own title.

I haven't made any submissions myself yet, but I have noticed that a very well-written story I quite enjoyed has suddenly tumbled way down in the rankings, yet an overly long, amateurish story is still near the top. I think that's rather a shame since I'm sure many people read off the top list and when a story has been knocked way down the list it is less likely to be read. It does make a gal wonder about the motives of some of the people voting here.

That's very interesting. I never thought about people reading by top list. Yes, it does make one wonder. Why haven't you ever submitted, may I ask?

There are so many ways to read that question...;)

As far as stories go, I haven't finished any to post. Perhaps when things are a bit calmer 'round here. I've been "lurking" for several months now, but I've only just become a member of late.

Yes, there are many ways to answer that......I like your mind, that was a good one. Post for yourself and no one else is all I can say. It has taken me a while to come to that, but I have finally.

Maybe this is a sad statement about howmany of the stories I have read but I generally go straight to the new submissions and read from there...I usually don't pay attention to the ratings much, as what I like isn't always what others like... but I will say If I read a story that is great I always will rate it...but on the other hand, I very rarely rate a poor story..but then I usually don't finish reading it either...lol

but now that I have posted a story of my own, I will probably be more contientious (I know that is spelled wrong but don't have the ambition to look it up right now...lol) of rating other peoples stories.

Pointless makes an excellent point here, some readers are very exact about what they expect from their favourite category.

I got feedback a while back saying: "There's nothing erotic about rape. I gave your story a one." I moved it, and it doesn't really matter now, since I've had more votes, but you you get the idea don't you?

If it's a lesbian/noncon story, perhaps you could cover your butt, so to speak, by placing it in one section with a short note at the beginning warning your readers of what extras to expect. That's what I do now if it's a story that spills over into two categories, so the reader doesnt' get any ' nasty little unexpected surprises'.

I wish you well with your future writing.

Have a great day,

Alex. :)

Thanks for your feedback, but I would never rape a woman, ever. Take her, yes, rape her, no. I would never hurt what I love so much. There are women that want that kind of control inflicted upon them, within reason of course. I am new at "erotic" writing and I do appreciate all the feedback. It will only serve to make me a better writer in the future.

I find most of the high-ratings stories are no better than average, by my standards. The other day I surveyed the list of all top stories. I excluded ones that only had a few votes so far or had only been up a few days. I also excluded chapters of novellas: I just wanted a simple short story.

That eliminated most of the top ones, and then when I clicked on what looked like standalone stories, I found they went on for 12 pages, 15 pages, 9 pages. It took ages to find a short one.

From this I conclude that long stories get unrepresentatively high votes because only those people who like it enough to wade through page after page, chapter after chapter, will bother to get to the voting buttons.

For the record, the highest one that met all my criteria was the superb Once Upon a Time is Forever by ronde, at number 41.

It's a mistake everyone makes at least once, don't sweat it. No matter how many people actually write you to tell you you're good, those numbers matter to you. Hugs for you and I'll be checking out your stories = )

This I agree with, there is nothing I hate more then to read a story and then be "surprised" by something that I did not expect, and did not want in a story.

And yes, occasionaly I've voted a 1 because of that.
