Is it better to ask?

Just wondering, is it better to ask for comments on stories or just wait for them to come. I now have four stories posted with many more pending. I like to write in a variety of different categories, hopefully I will get a story in each one.

I have only recieved 2 comments, they were on the same story. One was from Anonymous so we all know what he says. The other comment was positive.

I have recieved good scores with the people voting, I just wish if they enjoyed the story to let me know what turned them on or didn't turn them on so I could write my new ones accordingly.

Oh ya did I mention, I take requests! If you have a story idea you wanna read about, I will give it a go for ya!

Peace!!!!

I always ask for comments. What I've gotten so far is unfortunately about the same as what you've gotten. :( I'm proud to say I've gotten some great feedback via email though. :)

I take requests too.

Hello,

The more stories you write, the more comments you will get (I hope!). Add a link to your stories in your signature line and get posting to get your name out there!

And also, take time to send feedback to other authors. It's a bit like networking and we all like a little encouragement and recognition.

My early stories didn't attract much feedback at all, but hopefully you will find some readers who look out for your stories and who will either leave public comments or send you emails to say what they liked/didn't like about your story.

I can't say enough how much I appreciate those who regularly leave feedback for me - it's so encouraging to read their thoughts.

And I always reply as well - to both public feedback or private emails, good and bad comments. For me it's just a matter of courtesy.

Hope this helped,
janiexx :)

I wouldn't specifically ask for Feedback, say, in the story itself. Only do that in a place like this which is designed for that purpose. But you can do some general marketing whenever you publish a new story. Make sure to do the new story announcement. Make your story easy to find from your profile. (I need to figure out how to do this myself still.) Read other people's stories and comment on them, so that they know who you are. I also collect the emails of people who send me a note about liking a previous story. This lets you grow your readership. My first story had less than 10 comments, but I wrote all the Feedbackers when my second story was up. While I feel the first story was actually better than the second, I got about 15 comments the second time around. I then emailed both groups of people for the third story, etc. No one has complained yet, but then, since I only publish about once every 3 months, it's not like I've been emailing them all the time.

A lot of it, I think, also has to do with the nature of the story. Some of it is under your control; some of it is not. One part that is not under your control is category and the category's popularity. I hear that the Loving Wives category has many rabid readers who love to write dissertations in the comments. The lesbian category is much tamer. Even some of Colleen's greatest stories only have 10-20 comments there, even if the story is much better, more moving, or just plain hotter than one over in Loving Wives. The part that you do have control over is just how good your story is, of course. Can you take a story from "that was really great - click" to "omg, that was awesome; I just have to say something to them!!!"

<sheepishly raising hand>

Been there, done that. I was somewhat frustrated at not getting any feedback so at the start of a story I ranted and raved. OK, so I "had a few" but that's no excuse. I have since intended to go back and submit an EDITED copy of the story but never have. What I have found out is that begging for feedback will garner responses, but not always honest responses. Not sure what the answer is. When you find it, start a thread, we'd all LOVE to know.

If you must see this embarrassing and shameful cry for attention, check out NOW THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT CH. 01. And I'd suggest not repeating it, as I have lost a few readers in the process.

a sense of humor!

I have posted before that I don't care what others think, and really I don't. I just want to know, but most of all I would like to know where I need to improve. And from the looks of things Poetry is one area in dire need...lol

but then again I never claimed to be a poet!
