Is it all the same, or only different?

Is the break-up of a D/s relationship more intense than a traditional (vanilla, if you like) relationship? If it is or is not, why do you think so? What are the dynamics that you think come into play and make them the same or different?

I have an opinion but I am going to withhold it at this time in favor of what others have to say on this topic.

I have been discussing this topic with some of my friends over the last couple of days and have gotten various ideas and great input from them.
