Is Bush Ruining America's Image Abroad?

He's not really ruining it as much as confirming it.

Not "bashing"

What you've posted is opinion, just as my views on the Irish question were not intended in any way to "bash" the UK. The countries I would "bash" if I felt so inclined are Belgium, the Czech Republic, and Singapore. Feel free, and feel better.

"Human rights? Never heard of.

Miles,
I know about our history. Especially the "brown marks" in it. My grandfather was killed by the SS in the last days of the war 1945. He never wore the insignias of Hitler's party (Wich are definetly preferred on militaria fairs all over the US!) - he never was a member.

My parents told us everything they knew about this terrible regime. And they taught us to stand up for human rights. Against racism. They told us to vote. And not for someone who is obivously not enough educated to rule a country. Especially not one as big and powerful as the US.

It's because of our history, that I am a member of Amnesty International and Greenpeace.

I don't think all Americans carry only half a brain in their head because they voted for Bush.
So it would be better for you to think, that even in the so called "Nazi-Deutschland", there are people who think and act different.

(Sorry for my english - it's not good.)

So, let me get this article straight...Bush would rather allow prebpubscent girls in war-torn nations to be raped and abused than risk the chance that aid workers might teach them about contraception? How compassionate!

That's scary, scary shit.

The treaty, signed by former President Bill Clinton in 1995, has been ratified by all countries except the United States and Somalia, which did not have a government.

Conservatives in Congress argue it encroaches on parental rights and object to provisions against capital punishment or life imprisonment without parole for minors.

how can they say thats a reason for NOT signing the treaty ... we would ratifie the treaty but it will stop us sentencing minors to death and we might want to do that so we wont sign it ?

i'd like to think theres some mistakes made in this article or misquotes im not sure though

I don't think all Germans were Nazis and certainly don't think Germany is anything like it was 60 years ago.

I'm more overly sensitive than most being brought up in a family where I was a second generation American. My Aunt was a Holocaust survivor who bore a serial number tatoo until the day she died. Like everyone else, my father and uncles were drafted and served during the war, so I learned about it from a different perspective. But it wasn't until after he died and I requested copies of his military records and awards from the Army, did I realize what he went through.

Most of the people ultimately responsible for starting the war are gone, but I still have some negative feelings about Germany. I know neither you, your parents, nor 99% of the German people were responsible for what happened, and I apologize if I implied that.

Well said, Miles -

And Moon, you should know that saying you belong to Amnesty International and Greenpeace will NOT endear you to Miles, so his apology is very genuine. Keep posting!

Well, it does say:

Conservatives in Congress argue it encroaches on parental rights and object to provisions against capital punishment or life imprisonment without parole for minors.

Sounds pretty straightforward to me.

I've been rethinking this Compassionate Conservatism stuff, and I've decided they're right. Why should my tax dollars go to keep little children from being raped, tortured, and murdered in other countries? They should've known better to be born in those Godless Commie places to begin with! Next time, maybe they'll think about being born in the US of A! I want my tax money to help Americans, not little brown children.

But I'm against domestic welfare too. Because poor people are lazy and shiftless. Like the honorable Rush Limbaugh says, "The poor in this country are the biggest piglets at the mother pig and her nipples. The poor feed off the largesse of this government and give nothing back...We need to stop giving them coupons so they can go buy all kinds of junk." Amen! Because you know they use those food stamps to buy a full gallon of milk when all they need is a quart! As for poor kids, again they should've known better than to be born to poor parents! That'll teach em. They won't starve in this land of plenty, this marvelous nation. they can go dig some food out of the trash or something. Just don't dig around in my trash or I'll shoot you where you stand. It's my God-given right to shoot you. It's in the Constitution.

So I think we should take all this money that's wasted on education and feeding starving people and helping seniors and buy guns with it. Lots of guns. 100% of the budget goes to the military so we can defeat Communism. Damn Red bastards. Yessir.

Today, there are still much too many people living in Germany who were definetely involved in the "brown movement". Or are still fascinated by it. Shame. How can someone, who's ancestors have been involved in the battle of Leningrad and suffered like hell say "Hey, it surely must have been great then! Those were good ideas."? I don't get it.

So I understand your thoughts about Germany. And I wouldn't quote the innocent factor with 99%. But as I said - many people are trying to make a difference.

So thanks for your apology. I think I get your point and I hope you get mine. :)
