Is Bush Ruining America's Image Abroad?

Good for the Girl Scouts -

The fact that they are at war with Bush over a Children's Conference pretty well demonstrates how off-kilter Bush's policies are. Yeah, we're also undermining the Biological Warfare Treaty, trying to get China to break the Nuclear test-Ban Treaty, etc. Oh, and the Adminstration admitted that half of Bush's 64 stem cell lines aren't necessarily functional, and may not be for a long time, if ever. Which I recall hearing on this Board wasn't possible. But then, it's way more important to please right-wing religious zealots than it is to discourage the rape of children who happen to be female.

I'm not sure if any world leaders are taking Bush serously at all....he's done nothing to prove that he's no less than a blithering idiot.

Yes, he is.

Sad but true.
Waldsterben? Pollution? Save the planet? Non of his business. As long as it keeps his lobbyists happy spending money, he will dig for oil in every Nationalpark that is available.

Human rights? Never heard of.
Racism? Oh, don't bother me with it.

Not to speak of his unability to comunicate an articulate himself.

That's the picture we get of the "First Man of America". Sorry for the harsh words - but this is the truth.

He definitely is. And I've lived half my life in the US and abroad to be acutely aware of it.

Why can't he just act like an adult?

Interesting commentary from Germany, The Mother Country of Human Rights.

That was pretty uncalled for. I've visited Grmany a lot, for many years, and it is now one of the most self-confessed countries in theworld. Markers about the Holocaust are everywhere, there's a good Jewish Museum in Frankfurt, a plaque to the guy who blew up Hitler's bunker on a bridge in Bamburg, etc. If I thought you cared about the rights of German-born Turks, or Balkan refugees, I'd listen more closely as you complain about Germany. But I suspect you don't, so I won't.

It is sad that Bush is digging for oil in all of our national parks. Why can't he just stick to the 2000 acres in ANWR?

Miles, doth one man's regime make a country's history? In some places, perhaps, but not in Germany's. And if you really want to go that route, pehaps looking at 75 years of legalized slavery here in the United States of America, another 6 under the Articles of Confederation, plus the 7 under the Continental Congress should be looked upon in the light of the US Human Rights. Then we could discuss institutional racism and immigration policies from the late 1800s and early 1900s. And, as Lavender mentioned, let's not even discuss the Native Americans.

Copied from lavender's thread title:

"Is Bush Ruining America's Image Abroad?"

I'm surprised people are still asking that question...

lavender

What we did to the Indians and slaves was horrible, no question. But to compare that with the Holocaust and starting a World War in which tens of millions of people were murdered and killed just doesn't fly. Germany's remorse means nothing to them.

Lavender - you wrote:

The post Cold War foreign policy the United States established is being flushed down the toilet. So much for an increased awareness of international norms for human rights. Gone are the days of the increased participation of nations in public international law. The United States makes interesting bedfellows with rogue states and fundamentalist Islamic nations on this one.

The article you pasted:

The wealthy West is sparsely represented at this level with French President Jacques Chirac and Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien among the exceptions. "The Europeans probably don't want to be held up for money," said Marjorie Newman-Williams, UNICEF's communications director

Negotiations are expected until the last minute before the summit opens, with some 75 presidents and prime ministers attending, mostly from Africa, Asia and Latin America.

I'm not familiar with the story, but according to the article it appears that the only European country attending was our good friend France.

Please clarify. If that's true, Europe is filled with rogue countries.

Couldn't get through all 'yer Crapola, either
