What type of species is a fox categorized in?

Is it some type of canine?

You're not trying to pet a wild one are you? Coyotes are closer to a dog than a fox.

A fox is a canid but not a dog. A dog has 39 pairs of Chromosomes, a Red fox 17. They cannot interbreed.

Dogs, wolves and Coyotes are much more closely related, and can interbreed.

Humans evolved from monkeys too, I guess that we are very distantly related to foxes.

No, no, no.
Humans share a common ancestor with monkeys. There's a difference.

Think of a family tree.
Great apes would be considered a sibling species to humans (species that share the highest percentage of similar DNA).
Gibbons would be analogous to first cousins.
Old world monkeys would be similar to second cousins.
New world monkeys would be more like third cousins, several times removed.

And yes, we are distantly related to foxes in that all caniforms and simiforms (like H. sapiens) are placental mammals within the clade boreoeutheria.

Does it bark?

Jacha-chacha-chacha-chow!
