Hey, blueyed -

looking at the Irfanview thing..

First, open your picture that you want to use an as avatar.

Across the top you will see File, Edit, Image, Options, View, Help.

Click Image. On the drop down menu, click Resize/Resample.

Now, you should have a box appear... on the right is what you already used, the preset choices to reduce the size of an image.

On the left, there will be four mini-boxes outlined in light grey: "Current Size, New Size" at the top, then "Set New Size" underneath that... This is where you can type in your own numbers and reduce the size from their preordained option of 640x480.

If you are making a square image smaller, just type 150 and 150 in the width and height boxes, and then click ok. That should give you an image of a size you can save and use on lit for an av.

If you are using a picture that is not square, for example, wider than tall, say, 640x480... then just enter 150 in the width box. The number in the height box will automatically change to85. That is the magic of the "preserve aspect ratio" box at the bottom - it keeps your picture from turning into a fun house mirror looking thing. That will be just fine with lit, save it and use it as your av! Yay!

Remember, always change the BIGGER dimension to 150 - if it's taller than wide, make the height 150 - you'll see what I mean.

If you unclick the "Preserve Aspect Ratio" box, you can make a 640x480 into a 150x150, and it'll look stretched all funny. So do it if you want, but don't panic, you can click "Edit, Undo" and it will revert to 640x480. If for some weird reason it doesn't, just close your picture without saving the size change, reopen, and start over.

I hope I haven't been condescending, but I like to make things as simple and spelled out as I possibly can. PM if you still need help, or try Weird Harold - maybe he can explain it better for you. Good luck!
