Self Publishing's not all bad

A close friend of mine recently self-published his first book of short stories through http://www.xlibris.com and is doing quite well with it.

Speaking as one who is soon to E-publish, I can recommend it. Just watch out for the bozos who try to take advantage of the situation. As with any facet of the publishing business, there are sharks in the water. I've had plain ole agents bilk me out of my hard-earned cash and give nothing in return. ALWAYS check out someone your thinking of dealing with. A wonderful site is Preditors and Editors. It lists agents and publishers alike and gives warnings for those not quite on the level.

And, as with everything else in the world, it pays to look at contracts before you sign them. Have a lawyer look at them. Just beware. Ah, another good site is Writer Beware.

Please don't think that this IPublish crap is the norm here on the net. It isn't. There are some wonderful e-publishing sites out there that are highly rated, both by authors and by readers.
