SALT LAKE CITY -- The Canadian figure skating pair got their gold Friday, a victory denied them on the ice by a judge who was suspended for misconduct in the biggest judging scandal in Winter Olympics history.

Marie-Reine Le Gougne of France told the International Skating Union she was pressured by her own federation to vote for the Russian pair, leaving the Canadians with silver.

The highly unusual move by the International Olympic Committee gives the gold to David Pelletier and Jamie Sale. But it also allows Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze to keep their medal, narrowly won during Monday night's free-skate program.

"Justice was done," Pelletier said. "It doesn't take away anything from Elena and Anton. This was not something against them. It was something against the system."

I saw this on the news tonight. I'm sure they would have rather won straight out right after they skated, but this is the next best thing. I'm glad the French judge is indefinitely suspended, too.

The true problem plaguing the Olympics won't be addressed by this action. There is deep, deep corruption in the judges ranks and if there is to be any restoration of credibility, it is this that must be corrected.

Having the gold means more than just having it

I think most of it has to do with standing on the podium and have the Canadian flag raised and all that jaz.....

But I am glad they got one anyway!!

Fortunately, they aren't stopping with the one judge. The investigation will continue.
