Who hasn't had a fantasy about this at one point?

This could be taken in hundreds of thousands of directions, but I had in mind a guy (high school) who has a huge crush on a girl. Somehow he finds the secret to invisibility, and uses it to watch her shower/masturbate.

It could obviously be developed beyond that... maybe she finds out, maybe he watches other girls...

For something along these lines, read Nicholson Baker's Fermata .

I'd be inclined to use the powers of invisibility for evil. Perhaps it is just as well that I do not have such powers because more than likely, I would commit bad acts such as reach into blouses on the subway and twist nipples painfully hard; or give girls thong wedgies as they stand at the bar in the hip club, tossing their hair.

Yes sirhugs, I already searched all the stories on lit that involved this... but none really appealed to me.

They all seemed ridiculous, if that's possible in such a genre. One, for example, involved the person having sex with a woman while he was invisible and her enjoying it. Not really what I'm looking for.

Isn't Fermata about the ability to stop time, rather than invisibility? Or does he have invisibility, too? It's been a few years since I read it...

One possible twist that one could add is that the invisibility isn't completely controllable; maybe it occurs only as the narrator approaches sexual climax: he has to get himself really aroused before he turns invisible, and then stay stimulated at that point--either becoming unaroused, or actually reaching his orgasm will cause him to snap back into visibility. Could also cause some problems as he'll be having sex with a woman and then suddenly disappear midway through the act as he reaches that critical point.

Yes, that's correct. However, it amounts to the same thing as far as I'm concerned. He is "invisible" to the people he manipulates.

I found Fermata fascinating because of juxtaposittion of a rather benign narrator and his obviously non-consensual acts. We are led to believe that he is harmless and playful and that he thinks it is possible to stay on the right side of the moral line while sexually manipulating others for his own pleasure. I think Baker is always aware of this tension but he keeps it in the background; which adds considerably to the creepy nature of the book.

Baker is also an amazing stylist. Sometimes Nabokovian.

Good comparison; two of my favorite writers. Of course, both Baker and Nabokov have a delightful sense of perversity. Baker's is a little more of an innocent, curious perversity, while Nabokov's is a much darker, passionate perversity.

I share the view of that potion of the critical community that feels that Baker has been consumed by his fascination with style and, like Shock Theater, no longer convinces that he has anything to say.

I am currently playing with an idea where a guy can project his dream self, it's called astral plaining i believe.

While in this state he can use the power of suggestion to control what people do, but not in a robotic way he influences there way of thinking to suit his need's

Yeah i know a bit deep but as i said i'm playing with it
