This thread is set in the fictitious town of Brookston in the (1877), where entrepreneurs, farmers, gunmen, killers and lawmen make their abode and seek their fortunes in a post-Civil War United States. With the discover of silver nearby, Brookston becomes a thriving commercial town, but with its increased riches comes higher crime rates, and the sound of gunfire is as common as the ringing of church bells.

Okay, so there's the general setting... but the action doesn't *have* to be limited to Brookston...
so if anyone has an idea of their own I'd be more than happy to hear it.

Also of interest is that there are "Elves" present in this world, but their influence on the Wild West is fairly minimal.
The progressive-leaning East has learned to accept them, but folks out in the country are as wary of them as they are of the Indians.

Deputy Marshal
Iliana Marie Pickett
Date of Birth: February 10th, 1763
Age: 114
Race: Elf
Height: 6'
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown

Iliana was born a British Citizen in the American colonies and was only thirteen years old when the American Revolution took place. Although her parents were Loyalists and spoke out against the colonists, Iliana was more open-minded and was enamored at the prospect of a great revolution.

Increased pressure by the American Patriots forced Iliana and her family to move to New York, which maintained a strong British military presence throughout the war and for a few years following its conclusion.

She remained in New York and moved to New York City, where George Washington was inaugurated and became the nations first President in 1789.

Iliana moved out of her parents home and served as a city marshal until the formation of the New York City Police Department in 1844. Life was never easy, and she had to fight not only unruly citizens, but also against members of the department itself. Corruption was rampant, and the emergence of rival factions made policing a very hazardous job, especially for an Elf.

When the Civil War broke out in 1861, Iliana joined Union forces in using the numerous forts surrounding the city to protect New Yorkers, but Confederate forces never made any significant advances against the city, and Iliana was drawn outside New York to held tend to wounded soldiers. After the war, Iliana returned to New York and remained there until her parents decided to move to England. Iliana, however, decided to stay behind, and she used the money gained from selling their house to move out west.

Still working on a character with Tears. Thanks again for your help.

This is my post in the OOC so I can subscribe to this thread.

And, now that I've used the required amount of characters to post, I have nothing more to say.

You typed all that, technically >_>

Johnathan James McCoy
DOB: January 29, 1843
Race: Human
Hgt/Wgt: 6'02" - 192 lbs
Dark brown hair (almost black), blue eyes

Originally from Atlanta, GA, McCoy was 17 when the War Between the States broke out. He couldn't join up and fight, however, because he was in Europe with his father and mother at the time.

His father, a professor and teacher of history and science, seemed to travel all over the world, dragging the family with him. As a result, John had a lot of influences from various cultures growing up, from fighting styles of the Far East to formal education at some of Europe's finest schools.

When John set out on his own, he joined a group of others of his unique educational background. This group investigated, or rather hunted, supernatural creatures and occurrences.

The skills needed to combat these creatures John gained through study and tutelage under many different teachers.

Whether or not he ever encountered any of these supernatural or mythical creatures is something he doesn't speak of.

McCoy generally wears a long cotton canvas duster coat over a cotton collared shirt with the brown canvas pants typical of western trail riders. His boots have seen the miles of trails throught the US and Mexico. Sometimes he dresses up in a suit with tie, depending on what the occassion calls for. At all times, however, he's wearing a dark brown felt hat with black braided latigo band.

McCoy carries a Colt Single Action Army revolver in .44/40, and Winchester Model 1873 rifle in the same caliber that he keeps on his horse saddle most of the time. Also on his horse, in a specially made leather wrap-style case is a Sharps Shiloh model rifle, complete with tang sight, and chambered in the .45/70 cartridge. McCoy is uncannily deadly accurate with all three.

John has a ring that he received from someone in Europe when he was still a child. It is a plain silver band with Elvish script engraved on it. The ring has an enchantment: it allows the wearer to heal from wounds more rapidly than normal.

John's black horse is an Andalucian breed, built for strength and speed. The horse, who's name is Shadow, is loyal to John as much as a faithful dog would be, and has a peculiar sense of being aware of his surroundings, especially when there's trouble.

Here's my official Tears' approved character for the thread. Please feel free to ask questions if anything needs cleared up.

William Adam Riordan

Lieutenant, Ohio 42nd, United States Army (retired)
Date of Birth: March 21st, 1849
Age: 29
Race: Human
Height: 6'
Hair: Fiery Red
Eyes: Steely Gray

History:
"Redhead comes your way, trouble comes to stay" goes the old expression and it more or less defines Will Riordan's life. Trouble just kind of follows Will around, always has. When a local kid had gotten into trouble with thugs or the Pinkertons, they would go to him for help. When escaped slaves were fleeing from bounty hunters, Will was the one they ran into. When a Confederate spy dropped stolen plans out of a window for an ally to retrieve, Will would happen to be walking beneath and pick up the innocuous package to return it to whoever dropped it. When vampires started slipping in among the wounded at Anteitam, Will just happened to be coming in to visit a friend in the infirmary.

Called Will, or Willy (he hates Bill or Billy), he's the 7th son of a family of Irish immigrants, and the first born in the US. Shortly after he was born, the family moved from New York City to Ohio and established themselves as handymen. Due to their religious views and Will's unique luck, they soon became involved in the Underground Railroad. When the War Between the Stats broke out, Will stayed at home to help the family while his older brothers went to war. When two of them died at Fredricksburg, Will felt he had to take up their burden. Lying about his age, he ran away and joined the Federal Army.

Young Will grew up fast in the brutal conflict of the Civil War. He served in some of it's bloodiest battles; including Gettysburg and Antietam. Though he sustained a few surface injuries and has the scars to prove it, he was never badly or seriously wounded during the war. He served for another year after the war before mustering out. He stayed at home for a while but felt a strange desire to go West and see the frontier.

Since then, Will's traveled west seeking...he's not even sure what. He just feels like he needs to find something. And along the way, he's run into lots of trouble. Seems like any town he rides into has something or other going on that he manages to stumble into and nearly get himself killed fixing. He's made friends and enemies among Indians, white men, blacks, and even a few Chinese while he was working on the railroad for a bit. Even his friends are often nervous when he comes around. They like him and all, but wherever that boy goes, there's trouble to be found.
