I made a huge mistake.

I thought a contributer created a thread as a child of the wrong parent, so I tried duplicating it to the correct spot using 'Link Thread'. I then tried deleting the old one, by editing it into nothing, but I guess it saved over both. I tried going back in my browser, but it loaded up the new 'blank' page. So, now I feel like an absolute fucking idiot for deleting somebody's contribution.

Christ, I hate the interface on this site.

Your first mistake is thinking that linking a thread copies it. All linking does is make a distant thread also a child of the thread that links to it.

It looks like this:

Code:
Parent A Parent B
     | |
     V |
Thread C <-----+ Link
     |
     V
Thread D

If Parent Thread B links to Thread C, Thread D will still be below Thread C.

If you want to move a thread in the future, copy the thread text, and use it to create a new thread at the correct location. Or better yet, ask the user to do that, so the thread doesn't lose their ID.

So, email the person from their profile and ask them to replace te thread.

Aye, I figured that is what I would have to do once I made the mistake, but I just didn't give it enough thought before I messed around.
