I had a story, Horror , rejected in the Erotic Horror category. I changed three words and resubmitted it in the Non-Erotic category and poof! Accepted. the words I changed were "...sliced through her neck" to "...did its terrible work." I suspect it wasn't that. Maybe the change in category, but probably because a different editor screened it.

I guess the lesson is if you get rejected and there are no clear problems - resubmit and see what happens.

At any rate, I'm glad its out. It's a different style and topic from my others. If you read it I hope you enjoy it (and vote :) ).

Editors are human. And they are pretty overworked these days. The particular editor that reviewed your story the first time may have been having a bad day or was skimming and misread something.

True. I'd sent a PM to Laurel for clarification, but never heard back. So I resubmitted it.

Think Jenny's missed the point here.

Any vague suggestion of snuff is going to get you rejected. 'Sliced through her neck' is an automatic reject. Your changed wording is totally different.

The site has to tread a very narrow path between free speech and the law.

Personally, I reckon they do pretty well.

No. I didn't miss it, Elle. If you read Delicious, that story is straight snuff. It's all in the way it's handled. I like to think all the guys who run across that story are still crossing their legs :D

Snuff can be done, but I agree it's a delicate balancing act.

Ohh I didn't know that about snuff - I'm in the middle of a vampire story (with a twist :)) but I think I'd better do a few re-writes or it won't get through.

You need to understand the difference between murdering someone and snuff, EveAnna.

You can murder all the characters you want, but when the murder takes on an element of sexual gratification for the killer and the murder is done randomly without any real motive, you've crossed the line.

The thing is, in my story it's clearly not snuff. Violent murder, yes, but in no way was it sexualized or eroticized. That's what made me wonder if it was the editor that day.

Well, I'm off to read Delicious with my leg crossed. :)

Okay, just finished Delicous - ooowwww! JJ, do detect a trend, what with your comment in the penis head-mushroom thread? :p

You also didn't kill him off, he slid into unconsciousness - so maybe that's what got you in.

Hi Jenny,

I'm glad I read this before I started to rip my story to shreds :) - There is a little death but the story line needs it, its not sexual so should be OK.

I didn't get the difference between snuff and murder - thanks Jenny. :)

Yeah...I left him unconscious to bleed to death in his theater seat. Sneaky, eh? ;)
