I found these items kind of interesting - I was wondering if anyone has heard of any similar gestures?
  • This Friday the NY Mets are playing at home for the first time since the tragedy. All the players and coaches are donating that day's salary to help out in NY.
  • Jay Leno is going to auction off one of his motorcycles, the money to go to the disaster relief efforts. The motorcycle will be at their studios for the next couple weeks (months?) and all the guests coming on the show will sign it. Once its filled up with signatures it will go on auction.

I heard Drew Barrymore donated to a foundation which helps the pets of victims from the tragedy. I thought that was a weird way to do it, but to each his own.

Now if Every baseball plaer of every team did that for one days salary at todays multimillion dollar contracts the whole 10 billion would be forked over in one day.

an english footballer has choose to donate every win bonus he gets for whole year hes hoping other footballers would do same too

  • Jim Carrey is donating $1 million to the families of victims of last week's terrorist attacks
  • Rosie O'Donnell has donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help victims of last week's terrorist attacks.
  • Calypso singer Mighty Sparrow has written a new song condemning the deadly terrorist attacks in the United States
  • Actor Denis Leary — who established The Leary Firefighters Foundation in response to the 1999 Worcester, Mass., fire in which he lost a cousin — announced today that he's establishing a separate fund to support the New York City Fire Departments and the families of those who have perished. Leary is donating the $100,000 he won last weekend at a celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire to the fund. To donate, visit the Web site at www.learyfirefighters.org.
  • Kenneth Cole said he'll announce a plan next week for a nationwide campaign. "We hope to raise money and apply it in a way that can be most useful. The government can't rebuild our infrastructure and our sense of confidence. Corporate America is going to need to rise to the occasion and apply its resources."
  • The Backstreet Boys and Lynyrd Skynyrd - each group pledged a minimum of $10,000 each in ticket sales to help victims and families affected by the national tragedy.
  • Earth, Wind & Fire donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross from a performance last week. Jennifer Lopez has pledged an identical donation.
  • Rob Lowe is shooting a public service announcement for the Red Crissorganization, and
  • Kathleen Turner= has been volunteering at St. Vincent's hospital in New York City.
  • Matthew Broderick has been working at relief centers handing out food.

And...

"America: A Tribute to Heroes," a two-hour, telethonlike special set to air simultaneously on several networks Friday night. It will be broadcast live from New York and Los Angeles on ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT, and tape-delayed for the Mountain and Pacific time zones.

Participating will be Mariah Carey, Wyclef Jean, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Smits, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Jim Carrey, Sheryl Crow, Faith Hill, Tom Hanks, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Cameron Diaz, Robert De Niro, Billy Joel, Tom Petty, Will Smith, George Clooney, Amy Brenneman, the Dixie Chicks, Clint Eastwood, Calista Flockhart, Dennis Franz, Kelsey Grammer, Tom Cruise, Conan O'Brien, Ray Romano, Julia Roberts, Paul Simon, Sela Ward and Robin Williams, with more expected to be added.

Production costs will be paid for by the networks, and everyone involved will be donating their time and resources. Methods for contributing money to the relief effort will be announced on the program.

While "America: A Tribute to Heroes" will air on the major networks, all other TV and cable networks are also invited to show the program free of charge. MTV and VH1 are among the stations that have already confirmed their participation.

I think Jim Carrey is going to donate $1 million to charity. Nice of him. Can't stand him or his movies, and don't think he deserves a dime from any movie he's ever made, but a nice gesture nonetheless.

Kudos to Tim Sherwood for offering to donate all the money he makes in bonuses this year, but the way Tottenham have played the past few years, that might end up being sixpence.

Love the phrase "footballer".

I'll be the network executives are going to be VERY interested in the ratings from Friday's show. Why? All four networks are going to be showing the same thing. Will there be a big difference in each network's ratings? All things being equal, do people like CBS, NBC, ABC, or FOX? Which station will you watch?
