The India, pre-British times has a history of cuckolds, not confined to lower classes (castes) but also within royalty.
There are for instance, a very highly placed Brahmin (minister and confidante of the the Royalty) allowed a traveling singer to engage in intercourse with an unwilling wife. Ostensibly to give birth to a child, which the learned Brahmin was not able to produce.
(from the description, he had ED issues).
The literature (don't know its authenticity) was explicit and descriptive the encounter between the singer and wife.
The next day, the happy Brahmin had to explain his smile to his master the King. He replaced the Singer with himself. The Royal Highness praised the Brahmin for practicing the fine art of Kama.
