Intentional misinterpretation

I'd be cautious of calling the misinterpretation willful. We all know stupidity is a limitless resource.

You should provide some direct links to the stories you're wondering about, to make it easier for people to take a look at them.

I also don't see any comments on either of those stories from readers interpreting or misinterpreting the Kaci character, so you probably need to give us more to go off of!

But just at a purely axiomatic level, I would suggest being a little more open-minded about how women are interpreting your female character. Sometimes when we write characters outside of our personal experience, we don't totally realize how they're being received by people that might identify more closely with that character. Sometimes what you envision in your head is not what ends up on the page, I'm as guilty of that as anyone.

Not to say that you should only "write what you know," literature would be pretty boring if that were the case! Just that your readers might be tapping into something you didn't realize was there, and that's an opportunity for discovery, not defensiveness

Thanks for the insight. It's like they admire the character and the situations I put her in. It's slightly disconcerting to me. Don't get me wrong, I love the character, but. I'm gonna shut up now actually. I write, it's not really my business how it's interpreted is it? Thanks everyone.
Actually, it is. Their interpretation is important or can be. It depends on if they think the woman is a one dimensional cartoon character, or a serious person. I have a few of my characters be thought of as total bitches who should be taken out and shot. I see both as just having their opinions and their views on life. It is interesting.
