Why do they sometimes seem to be one and the same?

It seems that women have perfected the insult-compliment more than men. I think it is the passive aggressive way women have learned to deal with things.

That, and some of them are just bitches at times. *ducks the onslaught of shoes*

Two categories here, I think. The "back handed" compliment that really is an insult if you think about it (you clean up nicely) and a compliment that can be interpreted two ways- one of which is as in insult. It's too early to think of an example of option two right now, but I think there is a slight difference between the two categories.
