Installing DSL

Is it difficult? What kind of equipment do you have to install? Or should I have the phone company do it and pay them an exorbitant amount of money? I have a network card in the computer already.

In europe the phone company will come and install the damn thing for you.

If nmot you'll need, a router and a Hub to make it work...well only a router if it's only one puter on it.

Brat, I'm trying to fill out the form, and they have these check boxes. So, is it easy to do it yourself, or worth it to have them come out and do it? And they charge you by how much work there is to do. I don't know which box to fill out.

Well to me it would be easy to set up April...but then again I have worked with this stuff for 5 years and know it inside out.

In your case I would ask the phone company to cxome out and set it up....you're my virtual sister and I love ya'...but you dont know jack about networking.

Seriously, I was just asking. But is it a difficult thing to do? Then again, the instructions might be in German. It probably would be easier to have them do it.

No april its not hard to do, not at all...but you gotta know where to insert the right plugs, and which command to use on the puter to make it work.

Granted its basic commands and basic actions..but still knowing you....uhm...*DUCK!!!!!*

April, I don't know what your "tech" capabilities are, but at least when the phone company does it if it's wrong THEY have to fix it.

Just make sure the area around the computer is neat. Install techs aren't known for their grace.

Well, it's all theoretical anyway. They have to lay the cable still. And they may decide that they just don't want to!

If I had had my choice, we wouldn't have taken this house once I found out there was no DSL in the village! I would have kept looking.

It is really easy........

The hardest thing involved was stretching the phone cord. I havent got a phone jack near my desk,so I had to buy the really long cords. It works great and only took a few minutes to install.

Not at all ....I was scared too before I started but I had all the cards and they sent me what I needed and directions on how to do it and a phone # to call if I needed help but I never did....

They sent me filters to put on my phone lines and the rest was real simple.

Granted if you got someone that dont know what to do with the different cords and how to look at the setup page well......uhm....sorrry Doo doo head...but well youiu know... uhm.....

April darling it isn't hard at all they give you the cd and a 3 step book, Wizzie and I did ours its not hard at all. And it is sooo much better than dial-up.
